Company Profile: Newport News Nuclear BWXT Los Alamos (N3B) manages the 10-year, $2.1 billion Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract for the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Environmental Management, Los Alamos Field Office. N3B brings operational discipline, proven approaches and predictable results to the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract. Position Location: This position is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico. For two years in a row, Los Alamos County has ranked as the healthiest county in the nation according to a U.S. News report. Position Summary: We are seeking a talented and motivated individual to contribute their expertise to multiple projects in our organization. As part of our team, you'll be responsible for a wide range of impactful tasks, ensuring the successful execution of projects and the continuous improvement of our operations, including guidance of our electrical engineering design team. N3B is currently seeking a Professional Electrical Engineer level 3/4 to support the design team as a lead design engineer on projects. The candidate will be responsible for developing plans and specifications following applicable standards. The candidate shall have an excellent understanding of the design process and ability to mentor other engineers. Assignments typically include a mixture of on-site and office duties. The successful candidate will understand the NEC and how to apply it to the complex industrial distribution systems we encounter on projects. The activities you will be supporting may include transformers, power panels, control panels and updating VFD systems. Documentation to define the project may include system layouts and sizing, distribution, one-line, and wiring diagram development, equipment specifications, and transformer sizing to name a few. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required as well as the ability to multi-task and work independently and in a team. Duties will also include communication with and coordination of other engineering disciplines, other company divisions, and consultants, as needed, to complete projects. The ideal candidate will be a licensed Professional Engineer, a self-starter who can multitask and pay close attention to detail. We are looking for someone with a detailed understanding of NEC codes and the ability to communicate their implementation. While working to achieve N3B objectives, the successful candidate will: ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner through maintaining required safety, security, and operational training. Making safety, security and quality an integral part of every task including taking the necessary steps to pause or stop work as necessary to ensure the safety and security personnel and the job site. Education and Experience Required: Level 3: Bachelors' of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related fields from an ABET-accredited college or university. A five (5) years of responsible charge of electrical engineering work and relevant experience, preferably in construction plan production, design calculations, and technical writing. Level 4: Level 3: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related fields from an ABET-accredited college or university. A nine (9) years of responsible charge of electrical engineering work and relevant experience, preferably in construction plan production, design calculations, and technical writing. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Normally assigned to perform work in an office environment with occasional field work. Electrical hazards and other minor potential hazards normally found in an office environment are anticipated. Minor hazards normally found in a northern New Mexico field data collection environment are anticipated. Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the discipline. Office and field work environment.
