Overview

Overview:

The Undersea Special Mission Systems (USMS) Engineering Group is a newly formed branch within the Electric Boat's Planning Yard Fleet Support Engineering Organization (D495). D495 is responsible for non-nuclear technical support for in-service VIRGINIA, OHIO and SEAWOLF (Multi-Mission Platform) Class submarines. The products they support are Ship Alterations (SHIPALTs), Temporary Alterations (TEMPALTs), Liaison Action Requests (LARs), Manual Change Requests (MCRs) and validation of ships' configurations on Selected Record Drawings (SRDs).

The Special Mission Systems Engineering group provides specific support to the Undersea Special Mission Systems sector of NAVSEA (PMS390) and USSOCOM divisions. This type of work directly supports the Deep Submergence Systems - Scope of Certification special emphasis program (DSS-SOC), Escape & Rescue and New Technologies to be deployed on submarines. The group is comprised of multi-discipline engineers and program representatives/project leads to provide system engineering support along with program office functionality.

Duties include:

    Interacting with various NAVSEA stakeholders to include but not limited to: PMS390, PMS392, PMS396, PMS450.
  • Planning and coordinating with EB's Subject Matter Experts (SME) internal and external of the Planning Yard.
  • Acting as a technical liaison between NAVSEA stakeholders and EB SMEs.
  • Provide support to ensure products are being updated and worked according to the schedule and budget needs.
  • Provide back-up responsibilities to track financial spending, draft Technical Instructions for engineering study and general support contracts.
  • Developing integrated schedules and plan of action & milestone documents.
  • Developing required training materials and procedure creation (as needed).
  • Assist the group with resolving inquiries from internal and external stakeholders as it relates to material, requirements, and specifications as they relate to DSS-SOC.
  • Establishing and managing databases (as needed).
  • Perform mission impact assessments for PY products and track follow on action completion.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience working in a team environment, as well as experience presenting to external stakeholders.



Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 6+ years of U.S. Navy submarine experience
  • Basic Navy Diving Qualifications or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Microsoft Excel, Access, Visio and Project experience
  • Special Operations Forces experience
