DevSecOps Intern - Summer 2025

Who we are:

The Applied Systems Group operates and maintains a computing environment that supports software engineering research and practice at the SEI. The intern will work with SEI staff members to operate and maintain various software engineering tools and deliver capabilities to other groups at the SEI.

The intern may engage in any of the aspects of DevSecOps (development, security/compliance, operations) during the course of this work, assisting with the automation of operational tasks, performing software upgrades, creating and configuring Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD pipelines, and other necessary tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the computing environment. The intern may also support software development efforts.

Requirements:

  • Current enrollment in a degree granting program

  • Able to work an internship schedule during the summer 2025 semester.

  • Able to come on-site to the SEI Pittsburgh office.

  • Candidates will be subject to a background check.

  • Candidates for this position must be eligible to work in the United States without Visa sponsorship.

  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.

Relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities include one or more of the following:

  • Software development skills in one or more of the following languages: Python, Rust, Java, Shell Scripting Languages, or JavaScript.

  • Understanding of software engineering utilities such as Git, containerization tools (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes), virtualization tools (VirtualBox, VMware), issue tracking tools (Jira, GitLab), etc.

  • Familiarity with API configuration and how to interact with one.

  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems.

  • Able to work in an Agile based work environment collaboratively with other engineers.
