Job Summary
The Project Manager, Engineering CAD Automation is responsible for overseeing engineering automation and programming efforts. Automation projects are primarily linked to modelling and drawing creation but other applications that are used by the engineering team may be targeted for programing and automation efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of the department's products and services. The Project Manager, Engineering CAD Automation will lead the analysis of the current offerings in support of the decision regarding the technology for the future of PDM Engineering, which may include phases of implementation. The role will report to the Manager, Engineering Systems Data with secondary reporting to the Chief Engineer, Shell & Plate. This role will work with other engineering leaders to identify automation needs and prioritize their projects.
Essential Functions

  • Actively supports the Company's commitment to safety and its "Core Values".

  • Oversees computer automation projects using engineering application software and custom in house source code within Matrix PDM Engineering.
  • Works with Engineering Leadership to establish and maintain Automation Strategic Plan.
  • Supports staffing and oversight of programmers (employees and contract support) and subject matter experts that support Engineering software and automation initiatives.
  • Leads and/or participates in software evaluation when choosing to add, update, modify, or end the use of software in the department.
  • Develops software and leads projects that use other full-time or contract staff to complete programming objectives.
  • Engages with Engineering staff to align department needs with automation projects and priorities.
  • Monitors and stays current with trends and developments in engineering automation and programming and evaluates the impact to the Company. Makes recommendations for new or improved practices.
  • Works closely with Production Engineering Leadership to identify areas of needed productivity and efficiency improvement and focuses automation activities on these areas.
  • Establishes annual goals for productivity and efficiency gains through automation and measures effectiveness of developed tools.
  • Owner of developed automation and tools with life cycle support (concept, development, testing, implementation, training, support and maintenance), which represent intellectual property that is used by full time, contract and offshore staff to support our product lines, and supports through the full lifecycle.
  • Supports companywide CAD and Engineering automation efforts, interfaces with other modeling and drawing tools such as AVEVA, Hexagon, and various scheduling and project controls systems.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.


      Qualifications

      • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent job-related experience/knowledge preferred; if no degree, 3+ years of experience programming in relevant language(s).
      • 7+ years' experience in software/application design and development in engineering environment.
      • Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred.
      • Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques.


      • Various programming language exposures, Autodesk Inventor experience, Database experience

        • Priority knowledge of AutoCAD 2019, Inventor 2019, Windows 10, MS Office, Microsoft SQL, Lisp, VBA, VB.Net
        • Preferred experience using these languages and software to automate the production on models and drawings; will oversee department's projects that develop new applications and maintain existing technologies.




      • General understanding, knowledge and command of primary software packages used in each of the Matrix PDM engineering disciplines:


        • Autodesk Products: AutoCAD, Navisworks, Inventor, ReCap, Civil 3D.
        • AVEVA Engineering tools such as E3D, P&ID, Engineering, E&I, Clash, Insight, Isodraft, Catalog, ADP, PML.
        • Intergraph Suite of Products: CADWorx (Piping, P&ID, Structural, E&I), Isogen, Orthogen, CAESAR II


      • Ability to work with remote High Value Engineering Center (HVEC) resources and their common practices.
      • Experience with SharePoint integration and development.
      • Expertise with databases, spreadsheet programs and report writers; expertise in use of the Engineering department's primary information systems.
      • Experience in the use of back-office processes and languages including but not limited to VB, VBA, SQL Server, .NET, VB Script, and HTML.
      • Knowledge of Internet search techniques and ability to obtain information from the Internet.
      • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with customer service orientation needed to work effectively in a team environment.
      • Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities.

      • This position may require working outside of normal business hours upon occasion.
