Position description

Associate Specialist - Minor Lab

The candidates will engage in structural studies of ion channels. Specific focus is on defining structures of ion channels using cryo-electronmicroscopy methods, mechanisms of ion channel function, and ion channel modulator interactions. The candidates will be responsible for producing high quality mammalian ion channels for structural studies, reconstitution of target ion channels in lipid environments, and structure determination using single particle cryo-electronmicroscopy methods.

Required Qualifications:



  • Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess a Master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in ion channel expression using mammalian cell expression systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with purification, lipid reconstitution, and structure determination using cryo-electronmicroscopy of ion channels.
  • Demonstrated proficiency gene cloning, mutant generation, cell transfection, and cell culture.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • >3 years postdoctoral experience in the study of ion channel structure using cryo-electronmicroscopy methods and Post-graduate training in field.
