The UNC North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences Institute (TraCS) serves as the academic home for the University's Clinical and Translational Sciences Award ( CTSA), a funded NIH grant. The vision of the TraCS Institute is to transform how clinical and translational science is being performed, here at UNC, throughout the State and out into the CTSA national community.
Position Summary
The Research Project Manager will provide leadership, guidance, and expertise to the Research Coordination and Management Unit ( RCMU), and work directly with customers of the unit (Principal Investigators and research teams) to develop and execute rigorous and efficient study protocols. This position will serve as an expert consultant to study teams advising on and executing complex project management. For RCMU customers, the Research Project Manager will provide leadership and oversight to study teams and their personnel. This role will fill otherwise unmet needs for study teams by executing the following activities, including, but not limited to: project management, study start-up, oversight of study teams, hiring and onboarding of new study staff, and developing study protocols and other essential documentation (e.g. case report forms, source documents, regulatory reports, monitoring plans, data management plans), etc.

The Research Coordination and Management Unit ( RCMU) is a centralized research support unit of NC TraCS that provides short-term study management and start-up services to UNC Investigators. Research coordinators within the unit provide support to a variety of clinical research projects and Investigators across UNC, as well as work closely with the RCMU team and other TraCS colleagues to support the mission of the RCMU and NC TraCS.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Must have advanced knowledge of research best practices and regulations and ability to follow established regulations, procedures, and protocols. Demonstrated ability to plan work and coordinate projects, as well as the ability to identify and solve problems. The position requires significant attention to detail, the ability to successfully balance multiple competing priorities, strong decision-making, leadership, and project management skills. Must be able to work independently, as well as function as part of a team, displaying capability to interact with a variety of people in a professional, effective, diplomatic manner.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Three years clinical research experience and previous experience as a clinical project manager at UNC is preferred.
