Overview

Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. This position requires the ability to work overtime, off hours, various rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays; and respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Must work at field locations in all weather conditions
  • Must perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
  • Must perform heavy manual labor; i.e. pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50-100 pounds
  • Must carry tools and materials, climb ladders and scaffolds, and enter confimed spaces
  • Must work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Must be approved and able to wear either a full- or half-face respirator without facial hair or other condition that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
  • Must stand, walk, and climb ladder and stairs for a whole shift
  • Must use hand tools and operate heavy equipment,i.e. jackhammers, Skill Saws
  • Selected candidates must pass a Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
  • Must wear all necessary personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including; fire retardant clothing and safety harness
  • Must work with equipment with manufacturer weight rating of 350 lbs
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers
  • Must pass a driving test
  • Selected candidates must obtain a Commercial Driving License (CDL) within the first year
  • Selected candidates must be able to work off hours when required

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED Construction Experience
Preferred Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED Trade School and Construction Trade Skills Completion of courses relating to general carpentry, building materials, concrete pouring, or heavy construction
Licenses And Certfications
  • Driver's License Required
Physical Demands
  • Ability to respond to system emergencies
  • Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
  • Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
  • Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to carry tools and materials when climbing ladders and scaffolds, and entering confined spaces
  • Perform work in underground vaults through manholes
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
  • Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
  • Ability to climb in and out of manholes and excavations
  • Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
  • Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to use hand tools and operate heavy machinery, i.e. jackhammers
  • Unload materials from delivery vehicles and deliver equipment and materials to various operating facilities
  • Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
  • Acknowledge that if selected, must pass a Physical Abilites Test (PAT)
  • Use hand-eye coordination to adjust controls on equipment
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
  • Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays
  • Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
  • Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
