Claims Adjuster I / II | Liability & Property

Are you a skilled claims professional with a knack for investigating and resolving complex insurance claims? We're looking for a Claims Adjuster I/II to handle liability and property claims, including high-exposure and litigated cases, and contribute to our commitment to excellence.

You are responsible for:



  • Investigating, adjusting, and resolving liability and property claims.
  • Evaluating liability, determining damages, and reporting findings to management.
  • Supporting the Law Department with litigation and severe incident investigations.
  • Gathering evidence, recording statements, and managing electronic claims data.
  • Training and mentoring less experienced staff and assisting with administrative tasks.

Minimum Requirements

Claims Adjuster I | Liability & Property



  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or accounting or related discipline
  • AND three (3) years related experience in liability or property loss adjusting,
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained (which may include experience and knowledge through work in the APS Customer Experience organization).
  • Strong demonstrated investigative, research, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in great detail both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to work well with internal and external customers, while handling a variety of situations with tact, diplomacy and sound judgement.



Claims Adjuster II | Liability & Property



  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or accounting
  • AND five (5) years experience in liability or property loss adjusting,
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of claims adjusting and claims management techniques, tort law, contracts and civil procedures, customer service practice, and risk management information systems.
  • Proven investigative, research, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in great detail both orally and in written form a must.
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing and presentation software programs (Microsoft Office).
  • Experience utilizing Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS) data systems.

Major Accountabilities

1) Investigate, evaluate and resolve non-complex claims arising from auto accidents and general liability events involving bodily injury and property damage. Investigation may include, but is not limited to, collecting reports or records, capturing and securing photographic and other available evidence from the on-site APS personnel, and written or verbal statements from claimants and witnesses.

2) Efficiently resolves claims within authority level consistent with industry standard practices and customer and Company expectations.

3) Effectively pursues and resolves collection actions against individuals and insurance carriers.

4) Provides a written initial and follow up summary of claims that meet the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) compliance requirements to assist the Consumer Affairs Advocates in their reporting on behalf of the Company.

5) Ensures evidence is secured and the chain of custody is properly maintained throughout claim resolution process.

6) Identifies and reports to management on significant losses or trends in losses as appropriate, and in accordance with Company standards and guidelines.

7) Manages and maintains electronic claim data in the risk management information system (RMIS).

8) Assists in delivering Claims presentations, as needed, to ensure Company leadership and employees understand claims processes and procedures and their role in mitigating risk.

HybridRole:

Employees in hybrid roles will work both in their home offices and alongside their colleagues at an APS facility or other work location for meaningful in person engagement.

As of January 2025, hybrid-role employees will be asked to work about 40% of their time in person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.

*Employees in Hybrid roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
