Part-time, 24 Hours/Week 8a.m. - 1:30p.m. Remote (applicant must reside in OH or PA) Summary: The Senior Corporate Communications Specialist supports the hospital's brand through strategic media relations efforts . Responsibilities: 1. Promotes the brand by demonstrating a strong sense of Akron Children's voice and culture and is knowledgeable about Children's core business as well as the broader health care industry. 2. Leads hospital's media relations program by implementing strategic communications plans that position Akron Children's Hospital as a premier pediatric health care news source. 3. Maintains and cultivates strong relationships with local, regional and national journalists, editors and bloggers. 4. Provides strategic media relations counsel and preparation to physicians, administrators and other hospital staff. 5. Assesses day-to-day media and social media environment and seizes opportunities for increased coverage/exposure of the hospital system. 6. Exercises expert judgment in identifying complex or negative media issues or inquiries and exhibit leadership in developing strategic and timely responses. 7. Tracks pediatric healthcare trends and monitors coverage of Akron Children's and its competitors. 8. Maintains knowledge of PR/communications trends and practices by participating in continuing education courses, professional organizations and seminars; reading current literature; and maintaining professional contacts in the community. 9. Work independently and complete special tasks as assigned. Other information: Technical Expertise 1. Experience in professional public relations is required. 2. Experience working with all levels within an organization is preferred. 3. Experience in healthcare is preferred. 4. Experience in emerging internet technologies is required. 4.Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required. Social media tools is required. Education and Experience 1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Public Relations or related field is required; Master's degree is preferred. 2. Certification: None 3.
