Development Specialist

The Salvation Army Midland Division Headquarters located in St. Louis, Missouri, is looking for a Development Specialist. This individual will Secure institutional financial gifts through personal solicitation and written proposals, which will provide funding for programs, corps, and general operations of The Salvation Army. Manage a portfolio of government and private foundations, and assist with corporate prospects for solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship to achieve organizational goals and objectives in collaboration with Divisional Social Services. Achieve expected fundraising targets for grant making performance. In pursuit of this objective, the Development Specialist will develop and execute a plan to diversify, strengthen and increase the grant funding base including developing new sources of funding.

This is a full-time exempt position, 40 hours per week, pay is based on experience.

Essential Functions



  1. Collaborate with leadership and corps officers on missional needs and planning.
  2. Work closely with social services staff and corps officers when preparing projects for funding proposals.
  3. Perform relevant research to identify available grant opportunities and evaluate the results.
  4. Maintain existing and grow additional government agency, corporate and foundation funding partners.
  5. Assist with Identifying and developing strategies to optimize the grants administration process.
  6. Work with Contracts and Grants Compliance Manager to ensure grants are implemented according to operational and financial needs, as well as funding guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years' work-related experience, or combination of training and experience will be considered. Project coordination experience is important.

Required:



  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook and Teams).
  • Database experience.
  • Detail oriented, growth mindset, values continuous improvement, and impeccable integrity.
  • Hyper-organized and hard-working.
  • Ability to work proactively on several projects at the same time with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable of structuring routine and sensitive correspondence.
  • Ability to relate to people in a courteous and professional manner with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be willing to continue education and learn new computer applications, as needed.
  • Proficient with typical office equipment.



Physical and Working Conditions

Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment to include using a computer, answering phones, etc. Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. Work requires frequent use of computer terminal and other office equipment. Requires long periods of sitting, and close visual examination of computer products. There may be some standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, and small packages. Position is occasionally expected to help set up rooms for meetings and special events.
