POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Food Pantry Coordinator

LOCATION/DEPARTMENT: Rockford

REPORTS TO: Director of Social Services

FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt

STATUS TYPE: RFT

Pay Grade: 203

Pay Range: $16.50 - $19.80

OUTCOMES

Administrative support will be provided to the Social Services Department in order to accomplish the mission of The Salvation Army in Winnebago County.

Under the direction of the Director of Social Services, the Food Pantry Coordinator oversees the operations of the food pantry; including but not limited to supervision and coordination of food pantry volunteers, purchasing and restocking of food pantry items, cost and quality control, monthly statistics and reports as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  1. Maintain operation of pantry based on requirements of Illinois food sanitation, Winnebago County Health Department and the Northern Illinois Food Bank to ensure general safe and proper handling methods for foods and storage of food items.
  2. Update and modify food pantry food choices as needed to determine purchasing required. Maintain food pantry inventory by placing orders with vendors based on budget.
  3. Provide for the training, scheduling and daily supervision of food pantry volunteers and community service workers. Maintain information in volunteer data base and document hours served by volunteers and community service workers.
  4. Supervise the receipt, organization and distribution of both purchased and donated items. Ensure that purchased and donated "in kind" items are recorded and reported to Director of Social Services each week.
  5. Assume responsibility for implementing food pantry policies and procedures.
  6. Prepare food pantry orders, assume responsibility for the routine cleaning of all areas of the pantry and routinely provide for the stocking of shelves as needed.
  7. Coordinate with the Director of Social Services, Director of Development in the preparation of, and distribution of, information regarding pantry services to the public through print and social media.
  8. Drive pantry vehicles to pick up or deliver food items as needed.
  9. Participation in all other duties assigned or required, including special events like Christmas Distribution, Koats for Kids, Volunteer Appreciation Events, Food Donation Events, Pop Up Markets and other Social Service activities.
  10. Must be able to lift up to, and including 40lbs, as needed.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Director of Social Services.

In all contacts related to this position's duties, this individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.

Will supervise food pantry volunteers.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION



  • Food Manager Sanitation Certification required upon hire.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Driver's License in good standing.

  • Computer proficiency with Windows operating system, Microsoft product proficiency and familiarity with Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.

  • An ability to work with confidential material.

POSITION LIMITATIONS



  • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will keep the Director of Social Services informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT



  • This position is required to do a routine amount of physical work. There will be some lifting, carrying, unloading, and moving food products involved.
  • The work environment will vary with the performance of the essential functions of the job.
  • Physical duties of the position will require work in the food pantry and warehouse with a moderate activity and noise level. Administrative duties will require an office setting with a low noise level.
