Description

Responsible for placing safety as #1 priority in day-to-day work routine for self and others. Serve as a technical resource and provides support and guidance to GIS technicians and users of the Geographic Information System (GIS). Responsible for system development, analysis, reporting and maintenance to achieve efficient use and output of the GIS system.

This position can be located anywhere within the MDU service territory.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

GIS Analyst I - ($62,130 - $77,660 annual)



  • A working knowledge of GIS, geographic analyses, industry mapping and design principles and practices normally acquired through a four-year degree in GIS, Information Systems, Computer Science, Geography, Planning or equivalent experience; and
  • Three years of GIS experience.


GIS Analyst II - ($71,460 - $89,330 annual)



  • A working knowledge of GIS, geographic analyses, industry mapping and design principles and practices normally acquired through a four-year degree in GIS, Information Systems, Computer Science, Geography, Planning or equivalent experience; and
  • Three years of GIS experience; and
  • Two years as a GIS Analyst I.


    OTHER REQUIREMENTS


    • Must take all measures necessary to protect networks, devices, programs, and data from cyber-attack, damage, or unauthorized access.
    • Position may require travel: Minimal (up to 10%).
    • May be required to maintain a valid driver's license.


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    GIS Analyst I




    • GIS and/or CAD experience in relevant industry-based GIS mapping systems or Civil Engineering design and drafting (piping, drainage - plan and profile) or relevant industry related projects.



    • An understanding and the ability to read Landbase legal descriptions as well as knowledge or experience in surveying methods for gas pipeline, or electric line experience.


    • Experience with cartography, engineering drawings and graphic design principles.

    • Project leadership experience.



    • Prior natural gas and/or electric utility GIS experience.




    GIS Analyst II



    • GIS and/or CAD experience in relevant industry-based GIS mapping systems or Civil Engineering design and drafting (piping, drainage - plan and profile) or relevant industry related projects.

    JOB RESPONSIBILTIES


    • Creates, designs, documents, implements, and analyzes spatial\non-spatial datasets using ESRI GIS application software to meet the objectives of the organization for immediate and long-term business needs.
    • Consults with users, management, vendors and other GIS staff to determine business needs and system requirements.
    • Performs project management or project coordination duties for various GIS projects.
    • Participates in the installation and testing of applications, programs, auto-updaters and documents GIS operating procedures.
    • Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
