Classroom training will include landscape maintenance fundamentals, OSHA 10 Certification, CPR/First Aid and other relevant trainings and certifications. Fieldwork will focus on surface level maintenance of the City's green infrastructure installations and other public green spaces equipping Corps members with knowledge and skills to be employed in the future by various trades such as electricians, bricklayers, iron workers, and more.

Must be 18 years or older. Must have a high school diploma, GED or be working towards obtaining a GED. Must commit to a 40-hour work schedule and be able to perform physical labor for extended periods. An ideal candidate will have interest in serving the community and learning about environmental issues related to landscape horticulture and other forms of green infrastructure. Corps members must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Candidate should have knowledge of and demonstrate appreciation for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

IMPORTANT ATTRIBUTES: Desire to serve. Interest in working with plant material and learning about conservation programs and policies. Interest in knowledge of the basic components of green infrastructure like tree maintenance, water retention, and environmentally friendly practices. Ability and willingness to be trained in equipment related to the practice. Ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Ability to apply an equity lens in decision making.

MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles. Will work outdoors and conditions are typically loud. When in classroom training, work is performed in a normal office environment with little exposure to outdoor temperatures or dirt and dust and conditions are typically moderately quiet. *Please notify the Human Resources Department if accommodations are required to participate in the selection process.
