TheSr. Manager - Tool Intelligence (Machine Learning)will coordinate workstreams within the Machine Learning team - focusing particularly on the growing set of product category stakeholders & platform collaborators to expand and scale the ML competency for New Product Development. You will be a leader within a matrix organization of firmware and Machine Learning engineers focused on delivering new algorithmic solutions within power tools to the market. You will be responsible for strategic roadmap planning, resource allocation and scope management, oversight of technical reviews / design decisions, and process improvement / change management.

You'll be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:
  • Build, manage, and motivate a world class team to pursue challenging objectives, driving them to deliver innovative solutions across multiple projects.
  • Develop the team to demonstrate operational efficiency by proactively anticipating and addressing challenges, driving resolution as needed.
    • Identify and execute on opportunities to drive efficiency within and beyond the team
    • Formalize processes that currently exist implicitly
    • Fix toolsets overdue for refactorization
    • Anticipate future challenges in scaling
    • Work with Platform and data teams to expand our platforms to support sustainable growth of intelligence features
  • Organize and align across product team and commercial managers to develop a robust product strategy and development roadmap.
    • Leverage relationships to identify and drive new opportunities for growth
  • Drive communication up, down and across the organization to a diverse range of team members including marketing, project management, firmware engineering, software engineering (OneKey), data teams, platform engineering, and global manufacturing operations to capture the voice of the customer and tailor solutions to user needs.
    • Organize stakeholder reviews where appropriate
    • Generate and present management review updates for these projects
  • Grow the team to increase project quality and complexity while maintaining exemplary output rate.
  • Drive urgency in project schedules and accountability for establishing and achieving key project metrics that meet the organization's needs.
    • Hold team contributors accountable to producing and achieving work breakdown structures (WBS) that achieve project commitments
  • Ensure the team is given the time and resources required to succeed by creating and managing robust project roadmaps and resource plans with converged project scope.
  • Champion and drive new processes and procedures to meet the needs of a changing business.
  • Establish and maintain a strong awareness of emerging best practices in Machine Learning, Embedded Systems, and Data Science to shape best-in-class roadmaps and product strategies.
  • Mentor and coach a team of engineers of various skill levels on best practices including task management, Gantt charts, root cause analysis, algorithm design, test plan creation for training and validation, firmware design, physics intuition, and simulation.
  • Lead technology investigations, develop system requirements, define future architectures and reusability strategies.
  • Review the creation and completion of test plans and results for new product embedded algorithms. Coordinate test campaigns among multiple projects and groups.
  • Navigate ML project outputs as they transition from dedicated early-stage Front End Innovation (FEI) investigation phases into downstream phases of Advanced, New Product Development (NPD), Product Support Engineering (PSE), and Value Engineering (VE)
  • Identify new innovations and strategic opportunities while considering financial impact and competitiveness.
    • Foster collaboration among adjacent competencies (FW, controls, simulation, technology, etc) to achieve best in class solutions
  • Develop plans to evaluate and assess the emerging technology market space to compliment Milwaukee Tool product initiatives and development.
  • Define overall product design strategies, common architectures, and shared design building blocks across multiple products and projects.
  • Develop and maintain global network of relationships, internally and externally.
What TOOLS you'll bring with you:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience deploying algorithms, developing embedded systems, and/or executing actionable data science in product development; 5+ years of team leadership experience
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, exercises independent judgement and works well under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time (domestic and international).
