Position Summary

The Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education (GME) and Faculty Development provides strategic and operational leadership for Graduate Medical Education at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS) and supports faculty development initiatives for the Chicago Medical School. Reporting to both the Dean and Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs and Equity, this role collaborates closely with other Associate Deans and university leadership to advance institutional goals related to graduate medical education, faculty development, and clinical affiliate relationships.

The Associate Dean will lead the development and implementation of systems, structures, and processes that promote educational excellence, ensure ACGME accreditation, foster faculty growth, and strengthen institutional partnerships. The ideal candidate will bring leadership, vision, and expertise to address evolving educational, financial, and operational challenges while uniting diverse stakeholders toward shared objectives.

The Associate Dean will lead initiatives to support clinical faculty and resident growth and success by fostering strong relationships, recognizing contributions, and delivering impactful development programs. Key responsibilities include designing clinical faculty and resident development activities, such as CME programs and mentoring initiatives, creating teaching tools, assessing program outcomes, and collaborating with university leadership to identify opportunities for basic science educators and scientist faculty growth in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Salary transparency depending on experience and qualifications;

Assistant Dean: $200,000 - $240,000

Associate Dean: $250,000 - $276,000

Who We Are

Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS) is a six-college graduate health sciences university dedicated to the interprofessional education of health and biomedical professionals. Chicago Medical School (CMS), the original college of the six, has been educating physicians and furthering biomedical research for more than 100 years. Established in 1912, the founders built a combined medical school and hospital where working men and women could study medicine at night.

As a community-based institution, CMS students experience a variety of clinical environments and models; including, inner-city and suburban hospitals, the James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center that serves U.S. military personnel, as well as private clinics and practice settings. Training focuses on positioning patients at the center of care and as an active member of the healthcare team. During student didactic training, CMS' simulation labs allow students to sharpen their interactive and communication skills and develop critical reasoning. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Graduate Medical Education (GME)/Designated Institutional Official (DIO)

As an institutional GME leader, the Associate Dean will ensure excellence across the following core competencies:

1. Maintaining the Institution's ACGME Accreditation

2. Maintaining the Institution's Residency Programs' ACGME Accreditation

3. Improving the Institution's Education Program

4. Developing and Supporting Residency Program Directors

5. Managing the Institution's GME Budget and Advocating for Resources

6. Managing and Representing the Institution's GME Operations

7. Overseeing the Well-being of the Institution's Residents

8. Providing Guidance on GME Legal Matters

9. Functioning Effectively in the Larger Medical Context

10. Working in the Health Policy Context

11. Developing Further as a GME Leader.

12. Developing new residency programs

In addition, the Associate Dean for GME is expected to perform other duties as requested by the CMS Dean.

Clinical Faculty Development

The Associate Dean will play a pivotal role in fostering clinical faculty and resident growth and development through the following responsibilities:

1. Clinical Faculty and Resident Development Programming

  • Design and deliver faculty development programs, including Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities.
  • Develop web-based resources and materials to support teaching and mentorship
  • Organize clinical faculty development seminars and mentoring programs to foster career progression.
  • Design and deliver Resident as Teacher development program
  • Design and deliver Residency Faculty Development as Teachers and Leaders program

2. Assessment and Outcomes

  • Oversee systems to monitor and evaluate the impact of clinical faculty development initiatives.
  • Assist clinical faculty in creating individualized professional development plans that align with career goals.

3. Collaboration

  • Partner with university leaders to identify opportunities for basic science educators and scientist faculty growth in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs and Equity.

All full-time faculty members employed by RFUMS are expected to engage in activities that are considered core to their primary role as a faculty member. These activities may include teaching, scholarly activity, and service.

Scholarly activities vary and may include:

  • Original scholarship

  • Research mentoring

Service activities vary and may include internal and external contributions through:

Scholarly activities and/or clinical activities are negotiated and determined at the department level and are primarily based upon the faculty track.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check
  • Must have proof of COVID 19 vaccination or a university approved exemption

Required Education & Experience

  • M.D., D.O., Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent terminal degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in medical education, preferably GME.
  • Eligible for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
  • Proven track record of creativity and innovation in medical education and faculty development.
  • Prior experience creating and implementing faculty development programming.
  • Demonstrated scholarship or experience in medical education.
  • Must clear a background check.
