We are currently seeking a Senior Staff Consultant with expertise in Automotive and Heavy Truck Crashworthiness for our Automotive Practice in our NC or xx offices. The candidate should have a fundamental interest in the automotive field and be motivated to develop and grow this practice area within ESi.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support existing consulting projects that involve the analysis and testing of automotive and commercial vehicles / heavy truck crashes.
  • Examine vehicle body structure and cab crashworthiness, regulations, and advanced technologies in occupant protection.
  • Perform vehicle crash investigation, reconstruction, simulation, and analysis.
  • Performs vehicular investigations, including documenting crash scenes, using 3D laser scanners, photography, drones, CDR/EDR/ECM/Brake Module downloads, and measuring devices.
  • Investigate vehicle incidents related to recalls, as well as alleged design or manufacturing defects.
  • Develop specialized expertise in the automotive and commercial truck fields such as the design, performance, and testing of existing or emerging technologies.
  • Perform marketing activities and pursue business development opportunities to identify potential clients and strategies to build client base nationwide.
  • Develop and grow this practice area.
  • Develop proposals and perform research of various advanced vehicle technologies. Author and publish related technical papers.
  • Manage projects from initiation to completion. Prepare technical, project-related reports on a timely basis for clients as required.
  • Testify in court proceedings (depositions and/or trials) on behalf of clients as required.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of work experience with automotive body structures and/or commercial vehicle / heavy truck structures, especially as they relate to crashworthiness and occupant protection.
  • Vehicle design validation experience, especially as it pertains to FMVSS/FMCSR compliance.
  • Ability to generate business and manage client relationships.
  • Knowledge of automotive systems and heavy vehicles handling dynamics. Experience with accident avoidance, ADAS, and advanced braking systems a plus.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred; required to obtain PE if candidate does not possess.
  • Versatile, team-oriented, willing to work overtime, and travel as required.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to synthesize technical information and present it to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Clear written communication and technical writing skills.
  • NHTSA, FMCSA, OEM, Tier-1 supplier or Vehicle Safety background is a plus.
