Job Description

Thomas Jefferson University Health System (TJUH) and the Sidney Kimmel Medical College(SKCC) in Philadelphia is seeking a Division Chief of Neuro-Oncology at the associate professor or professor rank responsible for developing and executing the enterprise strategy for the Departments of Neurosurgery and Neurology's Neuro-Oncology care throughout the health system. The Division Chief will work toward enhanced accruals to institutional, pharmaceutical, and cooperative group trials, and contribute to strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of department policies that enhance surgical oncology associated clinical research and increase the Departments of Neurosurgery and Neurology's influence across the Delaware Valley.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Division Chief of Neuro-Oncology will provide strategic leadership over Neuro-Oncology.
  • The Division Chief will assist in efforts to identify potential partners and build collaborative relationships centered on cancer with community oncology practices, hospitals, and systems.
  • Provides strategic leadership with regard to the Departments of Neurosurgery and Neurology and the SKCC for oncology operations. Sets goals for growth, referrals, and increased volume. Contributes to strategic planning, goal implementation, and evaluation as part of the Departments of Neurosurgery and Neurology.
  • Assists Network leaders in development of SKCC's multi-state clinical trials network in coordination with the Clinical and Administrative Directors of the SKCCN.
  • Advises the Departments of Neurosurgery and Neurology Chairs and SKCC Enterprise Director regarding Network growth, opportunities, referral patterns, and joint venturing partnerships.
  • Under the auspices of the Department of Neurosurgery Chair, develops a Neuro-Oncology Fellowship Program.
  • Assists with developing/standardizing, monitoring, improving and maintaining the standards of medical care delivered by the Division of Neuro-Oncology providers. Assists in the development of common clinical pathways/metrics for Neuro-Oncology patients, including but not limited to: Outside imaging and pathology review for all patients, Role of neoadjuvant therapy, Tissue collection protocols across all disease sites, active engagement in promoting clinical trial accrual, assistance in the development of evidence-based screening protocols for Brain Tumors to better optimize both patient flow at Jefferson Health/SKCC sites and increase Neuro-Oncology volume.
  • Participates in utilization review, compliance, and performance improvement activities related to Neuro-Oncology.
  • Reviews and approves policies and procedures with regard to the operation of Neuro-Oncology.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Neuro-Oncology fellowship training and/or an established record of excellence in Neuro-Oncology.
  • American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology board certification or eligibility.
  • United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties certification or eligibility in Neuro-Oncology.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in successfully managing and mentoring physicians and other caregivers.
  • Excellent communication skills with a focus on patient access and patient satisfaction.
  • Candidates must have a record of providing excellent clinical care, possess academic credentials that will qualify for an academic appointment in the department of surgery.
  • Demonstrated experience as a clinical educator as well as scholarship experience.
  • The ability to obtain a medical license in the Commonwealth of PA prior to start date.
