Position Summary
We are seeking a qualified Cost Accountant/Analyst to join our team to create, manage, and maintain individual job budgets for homes in inventory. This includes cost variance analysis and cost management during the life cycle of each home to ensure accurate lot costs.
Responsibilities
Manage the Purchase Order (PO) Process: Own the PO lifecycle, from issuing and processing to canceling and correcting POs as necessary. Ensure activities are completed accurately and on schedule to support the timely and efficient procurement of goods and services.
- Identify and Resolve PO Integration Issues: Resolve any issues related to the integration of PO systems. Proactively monitor for discrepancies or system errors, troubleshooting and addressing integration challenges between various platforms to maintain operational efficiency.
- Conduct In-Depth Cost Analysis and Develop Cost Management Tools: Perform detailed analysis of project costs and develop robust tools to track, monitor, and manage expenses. These tools will help ensure effective cost control and support decision-making at both the divisional and corporate levels.
- Collaborate with Divisions to Support Cost Containment: Work closely with assigned divisions to promote cost containment initiatives and foster a culture of accountability around spending. Ensure that accurate costs are captured and tracked at each stage of the project lifecycle, providing clear and actionable insights to division leadership.
- Manage Home Closing Cost Review and Control: Oversee the review of costs associated with closed homes, ensuring that all costs are accounted for and that remaining balances are settled at the time of close. Monitor and document any discrepancies, while ensuring that cost control procedures are followed both during the close process and for up to six months following the close.
- Analyze Extra PO Spending and Vendor Transitions: Perform thorough analysis of any extra PO spending and vendor transitions to ensure that costs are accurately captured and properly allocated. Provide detailed reports and insights on these areas to leadership, highlighting areas of concern or opportunities for improvements.
- Provide Cross-Departmental Communication and Support: Regularly communicate with division leads, procurement, and finance teams to provide ad hoc analysis and insights. Understand and align with various departmental processes to propose and implement improvements aimed at enhancing overall cost control and operational effectiveness.
- Support Month-End Close Activities: Collaborate with centralized accounting teams to assist in the month-end close process. Provide key financial analysis and support to ensure accurate reporting and help identify any discrepancies or issues requiring attention.
- Perform Additional Cost Control Analysis: Provide ongoing analysis to ensure that cost containment strategies are effective and that payments are accurate. Assist in identifying cost-saving opportunities and areas of risk, contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.
- Work Cross-Functionally with Key Departments: Maintain close working relationships with the Purchasing, Construction, and Finance teams to align departmental goals, streamline operations, and improve overall process efficiency. Provide data-driven insights to support decision-making and foster continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with IT and Finance on Systems and Reporting: Work with IT and Finance teams to enhance reporting systems and business applications. Ensure that data collection processes and reporting tools are optimized for accuracy, efficiency, and usability. Provide ad hoc analysis and reports to meet the needs of both divisional and corporate objectives.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in accounting, mathematics, finance, business or related field or equivalent experience may be considered and 1 to 3 years prior accounting experience preferred. Cost accounting roles and responsibilities. Prior homebuilding experience preferred.
Skills in: - Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills. - Must show skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others. - Good communication and interpersonal skills, detail oriented, team oriented, results driven. - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Microsoft Excel is required.) - Prefer experience in Oracle based operating system.

Compensation
- Base Salary: $60,000-$70,000
- FLSA Status: Exempt
- Bonus Type: Year-end Discretionary
