Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Building Services provide full maintenance and repair services for all UNC facilities and ensure the proper operation of those facilities in support of the UNC mission of teaching, research and public service. Building Services supports more than 400 campus buildings with approximately 18 million gross square feet of space. The teams that provide quality maintenance, repair and construction services that support the teaching, research, and public service mission of the University include Campus Maintenance, EMCS, Facilities Operations Support, Housing Support, HVAC Systems, and Life Safety Services. Housing Support is an effective team of employees providing maintenance and repair services, including a safe and secure environment for the 9000 students living in 37 residence halls and 700 apartments. Trade skills include cabinetmaking, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, electronics, sheet metal, roofing, painting and HVAC. We identify, estimate, plan and complete minor facility renovation projects via our own Housing Support internal shops, Facilities Services Construction Shops, and/or private contractors. We provide year-round, 24-hour customer service to our resident students and Housing staff. Housing Support also conducts all scheduled facility maintenance inspections within its facilities. This unit is the primary point of contact for the residence halls and dispatches the request to the appropriate shop.
Position Summary
A SIGN-ON BONUS OF $4,081 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT OF THIS POSITION PAID IN 2 INSTALLMENTS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE:
$2,040.50 WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE DATE & $2,040.50 12 MONTHS AFTER HIRE DATE.


This Painter position maintains the appearance of 37 residence halls and 400 family apartments that house nearly 9,000 residents and performs interior and exterior painting functions which include scraping, patching, priming and painting or staining.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Journey level experience with painting materials and application methods. NC Driver's License or ability to obtain one prior to start date.

Ability to serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of essential (mandatory) University operations, even when adverse weather or other emergency conditions, including but not limited to a public health emergency, may require the University to close.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Progressive painting experience, including spray applications and sheetrock mudding and finishing.

Ability to stand for extended periods of time, work from a lift, navigate stairs and climb ladders; work in small tight spaces and bend, stoop and crawl to complete work; move objects weighing up to 50 pounds; work under stressful conditions that have critical timelines (deadlines); and ability to work with small hand tools.

**ELIGIBILITY FOR SIGN-ON BONUS

The selected candidate for this position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus. Qualified applicants must apply and be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

To be eligible for a Sign-on bonus, an individual must not have worked in a probationary, permanent, or time-limited appointment in the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government, including without limitation the judicial system, state executive branch agencies, and the university system.


A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time (more than 20 hours a week) employee are eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours per week).
