Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The mission of the School of Social Work is to advance equity, transform systems, improve lives. The School's curriculum supports the mission and recognizes the uniqueness of the region served, including concerns for disadvantaged, vulnerable, and oppressed individuals, families and communities. Classes provide rigorous and evidence-based content, and give students the opportunity to explore theory, learn intervention skills and engage in challenging dialogue with colleagues.

Position Summary

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. If business needs change, an individual employee's designation may be adjusted with a required minimum of ten (10) business days' notice unless employee conduct or safety issues necessitate otherwise at the discretion of management.

The Family and Children's Resource Program (FCRP) provides training and technical assistance to the NC Department of Social Services and other human services organizations. The Training Specialist team is primarily responsible for delivering training to the child welfare workforce across the state. We train participants in all 100 county DSS offices annually.

The Training Specialist will report to the Director and will be responsible for development and delivery of curricula and instructional programs (both in person, classroom and in an online environment) with a focus on topics relevant to child welfare and human services.

In addition, this position will support other deliverables on a variety of projects with other community organizations. These services include facilitation of large and small groups, writing for publications, providing training, technical assistance, and implementation support.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to consulting or developing course content, curriculum, instructional technique/technology, distance education design, development or implementation, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Candidates must have demonstrated experience training both in person and online
  • Candidates must have demonstrated experience in curriculum development and writing
  • Ability to travel to regional training sites is required
  • Ability to work autonomously and under broad direction with considerable latitude is expected

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Master's in Social Work or related field preferred
  • Familiarity with child welfare and other human services systems in North Carolina
  • Comfortable with delivering training in person and online using a variety of platforms
  • Experience in academic research and writing (publications, online etc.)
  • Experience facilitating large group processes and coaching for practice improvement
  • Microsoft office, adobe creative suite, articulate storyline
