Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Campus Recreation provides a diverse and intentional recreational program in a
safe, inclusive, and accessible environment which enhances the social, mental, and
physical well-being of the entire University community. With this mission as the focus,
Campus Recreation maintains several facilities around campus to help students stay
active. In addition to the Rams Head Recreation Center and the Student Recreation
Center, there is an indoor and outdoor pool, a number of outdoor courts for tennis,
basketball, volleyball and paddle tennis, and lighted fields for sport club practices/
matches and team intramural sports. Students have about 50 sport clubs and more
than 40 intramural sports for men's, women's, and co-rec teams; in addition to a
variety of aquatic and fitness classes/programs, expeditions, challenge course and
climbing
Position Summary
The selected candidate will be primarily responsible for construction, maintenance and landscape management around the Outdoor Education Center. Specific emphasis will be placed on the Disc Golf, Challenge Course programming areas and future multi-use trails.
The Disc Golf course is operated by Campus Recreation and is a drop in, free play facility open from dawn to dusk, year round as weather permits. Future multi-use trails will also be open for drop in use from dawn to dusk, year -round as weather permits
The Carolina Adventures Challenge Course program provides experiential learning opportunities to UNC students, staff and faculty, non-profit organizations, schools, churches, community groups, corporate entities, and other clientele.

Specific work duties include:
1. Create and maintain a sustainable plan for disc golf hole rotation which emphasizes erosion control measures and promotes ethical land use
2. Evaluate course conditions and all trails throughout the OEC to identify areas in need of maintenance or temporary closures
3. Rotate and reconfigure holes as necessary and where appropriate to maintain a safe and interesting disc golf course while minimizing erosion potential
4. Contribute to the installation and maintenance of trails throughout the OEC including disc golf and new multi-use trails as required
5. Plan, coordinate and complete maintenance and improvement projects throughout the OEC including new construction and ongoing projects such as:
a. Invasive species abatement
b. Installation/maintenance of erosion bars
c. Procure and distribute mulch as needed
d. Clear deadfall and maintain safe and passable trail conditions
e. Weed, seed and fertilize around new plantings associated with the retrofitted stormwater pond, pole course vines, bleacher gardens etc.
6. When practical and appropriate, coordinate volunteer groups and individuals in safe completion of improvement tasks throughout the OEC
7. Maintain cleanliness and working condition of tools and equipment
8. Coordinate and oversee any tournaments or disc golf competitions that take place on site
9. Maintain (or coordinate volunteers to) digital/online information and public announcements related to disc golf course and trail closures, upcoming events and current maintenance projects
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma required.

- Experience with tools including chainsaws, drills, hand tools, power tools and others
