PEDIATRIC CARDIAC SONOGRAPHER LOCATION: JOHN H. STROGER JR. HOSPITAL
DEPARTMENT: PEDIATRICS SHIFT: 8:30AM - 4:30PM JOB SUMMARY SEIU 73 HLT HOSP TECHNOLGTS Under the direction of the Head of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology, performs echocardiographic procedures to examine all aspects of the human heart and identifying signs of common and complex heart diseases. Follows all policy and procedures according to the standards set by the Echocardiography Laboratory. Requires on-call duty rotation, nights, and weekends; fulfills requests to return to site to perform urgent studies. Typical Duties
Minimum Qualifications * Certified as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) * Three (3) years of experience performing Pediatrics and Neonatal Echocardiograms * Must be able to work an on-call duty rotation, nights and weekends Preferred Qualifications * Associate's degree or equivalent in Cardiovascular Technology * Five (5) years of experience in Echocardiography in Adult and Pediatrics * Skills to perform fetal ultrasounds MUST MEET ALL REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AT TIME OF APPLICATION FILING. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES * Advanced knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, physiology and pathology of the heart (adult and pediatric) * Knowledge and understanding of ultrasound physics, instrumentation, tissue characteristics and measurements of blood flow * Knowledge of digital systems and capable of preparing preliminary reports * Knowledge of medical terminology * Familiar with PHI and HIPPA requirements * Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups * Strong interpersonal and customer service skills * Demonstrate compassion and empathy Demonstrate analytical and organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict management/resolution skills Demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy and precision Ability to adhere to department policies and standards utilizing best practices Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure when challenged Ability to function autonomously and as a team member in a multidisciplinary team Ability to present concepts and demonstrating technique Ability to perform accurate measurements Ability to see and hear clearly (including with correction) Ability to tolerate exposure to unpleasant noise, odor and temperature Physical and Environmental Demands This position is functioning within a healthcare environment. The incumbent is responsible for adherence to all hospital and department specific safety requirements. This includes but is not limited to the following policies and procedures: complying with Personal Protective Equipment requirements, hand washing and sanitizing practices, complying with department specific engineering and work practice controls and any other work area safety precautions as specified by hospital wide policy and departmental procedures.
