As a Nurse Practitioner, you will assist our Physicians in diagnosing and treating illness related to oncology/hematology as part of a healthcare team.

Here's what might happen on a typical day...

Being a Nurse Practitioner within the oncology/hematology specialty is a unique role that is both challenging and rewarding. You will work directly with one of our physicians alongside fellow Nurse Practitioner team members within the clinic area of our practice while also serving as a clinical resource for our infusion teams.

We understand that a lot of work goes into learning and keeping up with the different types of treatments, and we recognize that your attention to detail and compassionate care are vital to the health of our patients. Maintaining a patient-focused mindset is always the goal, and you do this well!


Responsibilities

Experiences that matter...

  • You have experience analyzing and interpreting patient histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
  • In conversation with our patients, you will provide excellent customer service by rolling out the red carpet to meet their needs and make them feel as comfortable as possible during a challenging time in their lives.
  • Your in-depth knowledge of the many types of treatments and regimens allows you to educate patients, tailoring instructions to patients based on their individual circumstances and serve as a resource for other clinical team members as well.
  • Experience with navigating Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and familiarity with HIPAA as well as OSHA and other safety guidelines will allow you to maintain complete, detailed, and accurate records or patients' health care plans and prognoses while quickly adapting to the workflows of this position.
  • Your knowledge of reimbursement procedures will help with the behind-the-scenes work completed by our in-house billing specialists.
  • Providing patients with information needed to promote health, reduce risk factors, and/or prevent disease or disability makes you invaluable to the patients of our practice.
  • Keeping in mind certain factors such as safety, cost, invasiveness, simplicity, acceptability, adherence, and efficacy, you are able to properly develop and recommend treatment plans.
  • You are also able to prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized as well as dosages, routes, and frequencies, based on patient characteristics such as age and gender.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care for patients. - Initiates and documents appropriate interventions; evaluates and records patient/family response and prescribes therapies as indicated. - Performs procedures after appropriate training. - Assesses patient/family needs and provides education. - Promotes wellness and recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs. - Incorporates the developing knowledge of evidence-based research into clinical practice. - Developing knowledge of reimbursement procedures and documentation requirements. - Completes patient charge capture and medical record documentation in a timely fashion. - May provide case management for patients and their families, given limited knowledge of community resources. - May promote/provide staff education - Responsibilities may include rounding at affiliated hospitals and weekend or after-hour calls. - Other duties as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Nurse Practitioner Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing school and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program. This position is entry-level and typically requires a minimum of 0-3 years post MSN experience, preferably in the chosen specialty. RN state licensure and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner. Current basic life support (BLS)/CPR certification required. OR Physician Assistant Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) certification. This position is entry-level and typically requires 0-3 years of experience as a practicing Physician Assistant, preferably in the chosen specialty. Current state license as a Physician Assistant in practicing state. Current basic life support (BLS)/CPR certification required. OR Clinical Nurse Specialist Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing school and successful completion of a Clinical Nurse Specialist program. This position is entry-level and typically requires a minimum of 0-3 years of post-MSN experience, preferably in the chosen specialty. RN state licensure and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current state licensure as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. Current basic life support (BLS)/CPR certification required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Qualifications

For your safety, keep this in mind:

  • This position will require standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Any lifting should be limited to 40 pounds or less.
  • You will need manual dexterity, proper hand-eye coordination, full range of motion to possibly assist with lifting patients, and corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

We feel this position requires these basics:

  • A Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program are required. A Tennessee State Nursing licensure is also required.
  • Additionally, your current BLS certification will be required upon hire.
  • Lastly, we feel that you will be most successful with at least one year of prior oncology nursing experience and at least one year of NP experience to provide you with the background needed for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Nurse Practitioner Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing school and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program. RN state licensure and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner. Current basic life support (BLS)/CPR certification required. OR Physician Assistant Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) certification. Current state license as a Physician Assistant in practicing state. Current basic life support (BLS)/CPR certification required.
