Recovery Assistant

SUMMARY

Provides one to one direct care to individuals with mental health disabilities who resided for a period of time in nursing homes, but who have moved to their own apartments. Scheduled for a set number of hours per week per individual according to authorization received by DMHAS CSC. Scheduled on an as needed basis yet works consistent hours each week once authorization is in place. Implements behavior and individual skill building programs and other habilitation programs. Facilitates and promotes community integration and safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintains a flexible schedule to work various shifts according to the individual's plans and needs.
  Follows the recovery plan and offers suggestions to the CSP when need.
• Teaches new skills required for independence, such as grocery shopping, budgeting, and housekeeping
• Assists the individuals being served with carrying out their daily routine including food shopping, meal preparation, hygiene functions, recreational activities, bills, budgets, and household chores as needed
• Documents case notes, communication logs, programs, incident reports, abuse and neglect reports, safety reports, fire drills, timesheets, mileage logs and other required documentation
• Transports persons supported as required to medical and other appointments and social interactions as described in the individual recovery plan
• Operates motor vehicles safely and in accordance with State Law (agency and personal automobiles) while on work-related duties

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 3 to 6 months related experience or internship is required. A human service training program certificate can be used in lieu of experience. Staff must take and pass the online RA Certification course and attend any other required training in relation to certification as required by DMHAS or ABH.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Valid Connecticut Driver's License
• Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Recovery Assistant
• CPR and First Aid certification, as required by program site
• PMT certification

SCHEDULE

• Flex 30 hours
