Job Overview:

The Orthopedic Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner assists in providing seamless care to orthopedic surgical and nonsurgical patients by acting as a liaison between supervising physicians and other medical providers such as hospitalists and consultants as well as communicating and coordinating care with OR scheduling, patient support person and/or family members.

General Responsibilities:

  • Completes ordered orthopedic consultations for supervising physicians.
  • Orders appprpriate testing/imaging for patient evaluation and pre-operative testing for sugical patients.
  • Contacts physician when consutlation is complete.
  • Performs daily rounds on patients and orders appropriate testing including radiographs, labs, and urgent studies.
  • Schedules operative cases after consulting with supervising physicians.
  • Performs appropriate bedside procedures such as aspirations, injections, and application of splints, braces, and casts, bedside incisions and drainage, as well as closed reductions.
  • Assists in surgical procedures as needed.
  • Always demonstrates Service Excellence standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree required. Doctoral degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Pracitioner. 5-7 years specialized medical training.
  • Minimum of 3 years of orthopedic assistance preferred.
  • Must be board certified.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain an active Florida Medical Licensure prior to start.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS at start date.
  • Crisis Intervention/De-escalation Training (obtained within 90 days of start date)
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Additional certifications required at start date or interfacility transfer (unless otherwise stated): Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment wwith many different surgeons who follow different protocols.
