Loudoun County's Department of Information Technology is currently seeking an IT Engineer to work on the Technology Services Team. Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, performs at least one of the following: monitors and improves network performance, including troubleshooting outages, planning cable installations, and deploying software on a large scale; provides technical systems administrative support for assigned systems including assisting with installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of system hardware and software; or administers systems and provides technical computer solutions for users including maintaining related applications and databases.

The System Engineer II supports desktop computing environments within the organization. This role involves troubleshooting hardware and software issues, managing configurations, and ensuring optimal desktop system performance. The System Engineer II will work closely with IT teams and end-users to provide technical support and enhance user experience while also contributing to developing and deploying desktop standards and policies. Essential Job Functions:
- Configure, install, and maintain desktop hardware and software for end-users.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to desktops, laptops, and peripherals.
- Collaborate with IT teams to develop and implement desktop deployment strategies.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of system configurations, processes, and user support activities
- Provide training and support to end-users on new technologies and applications.
- Monitor and manage software licensing and compliance.
- Participate in projects to upgrade or enhance desktop systems and services.
- Ensure desktop security through the implementation of appropriate measures and policies.
- Proficiency in Windows and macOS environments and common desktop applications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP networks.
- Advanced knowledge of System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) hierarchy, including administration, setup, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Advanced knowledge of application virtualization, streaming, and deployment in a VMware View environment.
- Advanced knowledge of deploying software packages and updates using System Center Configuration Manager.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Azure
- Advanced knowledge of hardware/drivers and scripting for Windows Images to assist with image builds.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems.
- Advanced knowledge of troubleshooting desktop/laptop issues with SCCM deployments.
- Advanced knowledge of Active Directory and Information Security.
- Advanced knowledge of Visual Basic, PowerShell, and commercially available software packaging tools such as Admin Studio, VB script, and SMS packaging.
- Advanced knowledge of Windows Query Language (WQL) or other applicable languages for creating queries, SQL queries, and scripting for creating SCCM custom reports.
- Skill in establishing excellent customer relations.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work with assistance.
- Ability to understand departmental programs, service policies, and procedures.
- Ability to follow complex verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, management, and clients.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- May be required to work on-call for purposes of emergency/crisis management situations (such as a devastating weather event or an influenza pandemic) as assigned, in the event of an emergency workers will be required to work 24/7 and may be assigned to an alternate work site and/or in a different capacity to carry out the essential functions of the county government.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with coursework in computer science or related field; two (2) years of related technical work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Certifications: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified Office Specialist, Microsoft Certified Desktop Administrator, or ITIL, Microsoft Azure Administrator
