The University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria seeks a doctoral-level psychologist to join the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. This full-time position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor is ideal for individuals seeking an academic position that allows for clinical practice, teaching, program development, administration, and scholarship.

Seated in medical education, our department has developed a competitive psychiatry residency training program with an emphasis on psychotherapy training. The faculty member will provide clinical supervision for our well-established Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) resident training clinic and educational opportunities in assessment, differential diagnoses, and psychological treatments of various psychiatric disorders. Specific areas of expertise sought include Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or other mindfulness-based behavior therapies, behavioral health interventions, supervision of resident psychotherapy clinics, and administrative skills.

The position provides numerous advancement opportunities in leadership and administrative roles within a robust healthcare system and university setting. These include the development of a clinical psychology fellowship and/or internship, Center for Wellbeing directorship, expansion of child and adolescent services, and spearheading collaboration with community partners in other areas of departmental growth. Candidates should share our values for high-quality patient care, education, and the promotion of scholarly activity.

The responsibilities of the position include clinical supervision, teaching, direct patient care, oversight of program curriculum and operations, promoting a culture of excellence, recruitment, evaluation, and scholarly support. Interest in the development of an APA-approved clinical psychology internship and/or fellowship is also highly valued. Other duties will be tailored to the interest of the applicant and include opportunities in outpatient therapy, child and adolescent services, testing, community outreach, and wellbeing services. The department values and supports the growth, development, and professional advancement of its faculty members.

Minimum requirements include PhD, PsyD, EdD in Psychology or similar doctoral degree and Licensed Clinical Psychologist or eligible in the state of Illinois. Competitive salary and benefits are commensurate with rank.

Position Summary

The clinician-educator faculty member will work with the Department Chair and other psychology faculty members to develop outpatient and community-based psychological services and provide education to medical students and resident physicians consistent with the mission of the department for clinical care, education, scholarship and outreach.

Duties & Responsibilities


Primary Responsibilities include the following:
  • Clinical supervision and classroom teaching of medical students, psychiatry residents, and other healthcare learners
  • Direct patient care
  • Development and leadership of a clinical psychology fellowship and/or internship
  • Function as a University faculty member, performing such duties as are appropriate to academic rank and position
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD, PsyD, EdD in Clinical Psychology or similar doctoral degree
  • Licensed Clinical Psychologist or eligible in the state of Illinois

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in evidenced-based therapies
  • Experience in administration and educational program development
