The Senior Communications and Events Manager can expect to regularly work on-site four days per week at Dartmouth in Hanover, NH, and will have the ability to build a hybrid schedule for 1-2 days of remote work per week as the events schedule allows. Flexibility will be required as the schedule varies for events and includes working some early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Position Purpose
The Senior Manager will collaborate with IDE leadership to enhance IDE's presence at Dartmouth, increase engagement with staff, faculty, students, alumni, and external partners, and position Dartmouth and IDE as leaders in diversity, equity, inclusion and global engagement locally, nationally, and internationally. The Senior Manager will be responsible for developing core communications materials to promote all IDE events and will coordinate the implementation of an IDE communications strategy that includes a wide variety of compelling content. The position will be responsible for the design and logistics of multiple complex and wide-reaching marquee IDE events such as the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Social Justice Awards, Inclusion Champions, and aspects of Global Inclusion events. Additionally, as the events lead for IDE, the Senior Manager will develop a strategy and oversee the execution of all Senior Vice President and Senior Diversity Officer ( SVP/ SDO) sponsored celebrations, receptions and luncheons.
Description
The ideal candidate for Dartmouth's Senior Communications and Events Manager role in the IDE department will be a communications expert with a strategic vision to enhance IDE's impact and visibility across Dartmouth and beyond. With a background in communications, marketing, public relations, and/or event management and 5-7 years of experience, this individual will be a communications leader with a talent for crafting and implementing impactful content strategies that promote IDE's mission of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Key responsibilities include overseeing IDE's communications plan across multiple platforms, managing digital outreach, writing and editing diverse content, and coordinating high-profile event marketing. Expertise in multimedia campaigns, cultural awareness, and strategic communications is essential. Successful candidates will also excel in creating, managing, and promoting inclusive, high-profile events, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Social Justice Awards. They will bring proven proficiency in developing, editing, and tailoring content for diverse audiences, managing multimedia campaigns, and creating a cohesive IDE communications strategy. Strong skills in project management, collaboration, cultural awareness, and event planning technology (e.g., Eventbrite, HubSpot, MailChimp) are essential, along with an ability to navigate the fast-paced, dynamic needs of a complex organization.

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing. event management, business administration or related field.
  • 5-7 years combined experience working in communications, public relations, events management and/or marketing. Experience in higher education and/or non-profits organizations a plus.
  • Demonstrates initiative and is results-driven, resourceful, and committed to excellence. Detail oriented at all levels.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to the shifting needs and priorities of a dynamic department within a complex organization.
  • Strong problem solving, organizational, and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects from inception to completion, adhering to deadlines, within budget, and with high quality.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and editing complex content based on target audience, with ability to provide context and/or reshape material.
  • Proven experience organizing and managing a wide range of large, complex events.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated cultural awareness, and ability to build consensus among diverse groups of people.
  • High-energy, positive, and entrepreneurial spirit, while goal oriented. Ability to work independently as well as within a collaborative team.
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Availability to work some early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with key event and communications technologies, including but not limited to Eventbrite, HubSpot, MailChimp, Canva, Word Press, Drupal, third-party email systems, and social media management systems.

Key Accountabilities


Description
Communications Management

  • Develops and implements comprehensive communications and event marketing plans using data and research insights that align with institutional priorities and increase IDE's visibility across Dartmouth and beyond.
  • Creates digital and print content that effectively shares IDE impact stories, events, flagship programming and leadership activities
  • Oversees the maintenance of the IDE website, development of an IDE newsletter and IDE social media accounts to maximize reach and engagement with diverse audiences.
  • Liaises with the Office of Communications to identify content, pitch, and place IDE impact stories in The Dartmouth and/or local, regional and national news outlets.
  • Collaborates with IDE leadership to develop and write IDE focused news stories and event recaps for central Dartmouth communications platforms.
  • Coordinates IDE programing and events announcements across a wide range of community-facing platforms including newsletters, email campaigns, Eventbrite, and VOX.
  • Acts as primary copy editor for IDE and ensures that all messages, reports, newsletters, website language and other materials are in IDE's preferred voice and adhere to Dartmouth's brand and style guidelines.
  • Provides monthly reports on event attendance, newsletters, social media, and website performance that analyze available engagement metrics. Makes recommendations to improve performance.

Description
Events Strategy

  • Consults with IDE divisional leadership to establish a comprehensive events strategy with event objectives, Key Performance Indicators, and success metrics for all IDE events.
  • With the CoS, develops a strategic plan for SVP sponsored celebrations, receptions, and luncheons. Works closely with the Operations Manager to ensure the seamless execution of events for the SVP.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of comprehensive events CRM/EMS to track event metrics, draft event invitations, manage guest lists, develop and distribute registration forms, and send pre- and post-event correspondence for all IDE events.
  • Conducts comprehensive post-event evaluations and surveys to assess the success of events against the event objectives and gather feedback from attendees, sponsors, and stakeholders.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive events calendar for all IDE and IDE partner events and identifies opportunities for collaboration and innovation. Supports IDE co-sponsored events and programs hosted by campus partners.
  • Researches event best-practices to develop protocols and checklists that ensure smooth event coordination and marketing for all IDE events. Continually identifies areas for improvement.

Description
Event Management

  • Collaborates closely with IDE staff to advise on event best practices and oversee all logistical aspects for marquee programs such as the MLK Celebration, Social Justice Awards, Juneteenth Commemoration, Inclusion Champions and Global Inclusion Events (i.e. International Student Orientation).
  • Creates and distributes all background materials to stakeholders for events and programs, including events briefings, run of shows, logistics memos and scripts/talking points for SVP, senior leaders and guest speaker(s).
  • Works with IDE leadership to develop and maintain guests and speaker lists for special events.
  • Oversees the coordination of all IDE invited and confirmed speakers by working in close contact with the IDE event staff lead to ensure pre-event calls, travel, accommodations, audio/visual and speaker specific needs are all documented in an event plan and fully executed.
  • Coordinates the arrangement of book orders and signings for author speakers and oversees distribution of books to event attendees.
  • In consultation with the CoS, supports the planning of team gatherings, retreats and broader divisional programs as needed.
  • Maintain IDE relationships with key events offices including but not limited to Conferences and Events and Facilities Operations & Management.
  • Maintain a list and relationships with internal and external vendors to ensure the seamless execution of events (Tuck catering, Hanover Inn catering, Dark Star Audio-Visual, approved caterers, etc.)
