Huntsman is seeking a Chemical Technician supporting the Huntsman Petrochemical LLC Division located in HATC, Texas. This position will report to the Senior Technology Manager-Materials.

Job Scope

This job exists to assist the Performance Products - Materials business to achieve its profitability goals. The person in this job will perform laboratory/pilot scale experiments involving a wide array of chemistries. Areas of research can include applications/products such as PU additives, Polyurethane formulations, polyetheramines and epoxy formulations, dispersants, or other chemistries. This person will also be responsible for maintaining and operating the Materials Lab test equipment.

In summary, as the Chemical Technician, you will:

With moderate supervision and moderate decision-making:

  • 15% Maintain a safe work environment by complying with safety policies and procedures and by following safe work practices for personal and team member safety.
  • 25% Conduct complex laboratory studies efficiently, carefully, accurately, and correctly while striving to meet the required time deadlines. Perform application studies in the lab in the area such as polyurethanes, testing of new additives, producing data that would resolve product quality issues etc.
  • 25% Produce data, keep thorough and accurate records of experiments, monitor results, recognize trends in data, and provide input toward understanding experimental results and ideas for further studies.
  • Keep accurate and legible lab notebook, and use the electronic laboratory notebook system, in compliance with laboratory notebook guidelines to aid in protection of intellectual property.
  • 20% Develop an understanding of the principles behind the experiments and provide innovative ideas for improving the quality, efficiency, or safety of laboratory procedures. Demonstrate the ability to learn and understand technical information and apply the knowledge in a variety of situations and circumstances.
  • 15% Maintain laboratory hygiene by keeping work areas neat, orderly, and clean. Maintain laboratory equipment by ordering parts, doing routine maintenance, and performing quality checks. Order chemicals for experiments. Safely dispose of chemicals and waste according to site requirements. Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and chemicals.

Other general responsibilities:

  • Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
  • Assists other employees in accomplishment of Huntsman company goals.
  • Participates in and completes company-required training programs.
  • Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.
The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Chemical Technology applied chemistry or related field with 3+ years of related experience.

Skills and knowledge

  • Thoroughness, attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to new instructions and/or dynamic organizational priorities is critical for job success.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert laboratory/mechanical skills and aptitude. A person with polymer (polyurethane) application experience, especially polyurethane spray foam experience will be preferred.
  • Experience with Polyurethane additives will be a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Occasional Lifting/carrying 10 - 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, twisting and reaching
  • Infrequent loud noise exposure,
  • Infrequent Vehicle operation, i.e. forklift
  • Infrequent Moving machinery operation
  • Frequent sitting, standing and walking
  • Occasional computer usage
