Specific Duties:
- Maintains compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local environmental regulations concerning solid and hazardous waste, hazardous materials, and air and wastewater compliance.
- Completes all EPA and DOT forms and reports as applicable, (e.g. Form R, Tier II, etc.). Submits required reports on a timely basis. Applies for and obtains required environmental permits.
- Maintains current emergency response plans, and all recordkeeping required by regulations.
- Plays a lead role on capital/expense projects relating to environmental controls.
- Develops action plans for environmental concerns that could have substantial environmental impact.
- Reviews permits annually to ascertain compliance status.
- Negotiates and renews permits as necessary.
- Coordinates hazardous waste storage and disposal in accordance with EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations.
- Writes/maintains required environmental programs, including a waste minimization program.
- Schedules OSHA mandated and non-mandated indoor air monitoring.
- Maintains the Hazard Communication Program, including the SDS files.
- Maintains contacts with Federal, State and local regulatory agencies.
- Updates technical knowledge and skills through trade shows and off-site training classes.
- Obtains applicable Federal environmental information through the Corporate Environmental Manager and Federal Register, and State specific information through the Virginia Register or other regulatory update subscription.
- Maintains an emergency response team, and any employees as required by EPA, OSHA and DOT.
- Management of hazardous waste operations
- Maintains 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency.
- Performs facility environmental inspections as required.
- Conducts periodic reviews of records, and manages risk assessments for identification of hazards, unsafe conditions, and practices as prepared by risk assessment team(s).
- Works with Training Coordinator to schedule safety training as required by Federal and State regulations.
- Establishes, coordinates, and maintains a safety motivation and communication program to promote safety awareness in the plant.
- Coordinates the activities of the Safety Committee and Safety Steering Committee.
- Writes and maintains compliance programs as required, including Personal Protective Equipment, Confined Space Entry, Lockout of Hazardous Energy, Electrical Safety, Power Press Safety, Machine Guarding, HAZCOM, Noise Exposure, Asbestos Management, Lead Management, Toxic and Hazardous Substances, Respiratory Protection, and any other applicable regulatory programs required by OSHA.
- Maintains ISO 14001 EMS certification to meet internal.
- OHSAS 18001 Management Representative.
- Designated ISO 14001 EMS Management Representative.
- Maintains OHSAS 18001 Management System.
Education
- B.S. Chemistry, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Biological Science, or equivalent preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of two years of Environment / Safety / Regulatory experience.
- Written and oral communication skills.
- Computer skills.
- Must possess, or be able to immediately obtain, training / certifications as required for Hazardous Waste.
- Basic knowledge of first aid.
- Basic chemical laboratory skills.
- Project management skills.
