THE POSITION

Do you have experience working around horses? Are you interested in utilizing that experience in the exciting world of horse racing? The Department of Agriculture is seeking a Livestock Worker to assist Veterinarians handle horses, record data, and collect samples at Penn National Race Course. You have the opportunity to perform important work that ensures the rules, regulations, and policies of the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission are followed. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Livestock Worker, you will be responsible for monitoring assigned horses, collecting urine and blood samples, performing upkeep of the Detention Barn, and assisting in any other necessary farm activities. Work includes but may not be limited to:

  • Maintaining cleanliness of the barn and equipment
  • Escorting horses for testing
  • Providing horsemen with necessary equipment
  • Ensuring water buckets are full, clean, and disinfected daily
  • Assisting with essential tasks when personnel shortages occur

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time employment
  • Work hours are 5:45 AM to 10:45 PM, Wednesday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. The work schedule is vendor controlled and may change as determined by the racing schedule.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Experience in general farm work; and such training as may have been gained through completion of the eighth school grade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
