Basic Function
Manages the product and application development team for APS USCAN Performance Materials focusing on Color Innovation for both the PPC and EP business units. Ensures innovation and product developmental activities are consistent with customer demands, business strategy, market trends and LYB regulatory and product safety policies. Oversee the development and management of color recipes, color quality specifications, acts as the technical expert to manufacturing and supports quality and non-conformance investigations for application field issues. Mentors the PAD engineers and color groups with regards to proper formulation techniques and ensuring LYB best practices are followed. Maintains raw material cost discipline and acts as the CoE focal point lead for pigment strategy and portfolio. Collaborates globally and cross functionally driving color innovation activities and developmental trends in support of the PM business strategy. The PAD Manager (color) is responsible for direct reports located at both the Lansing and Akron Technical Centers. #LI-LL2
Roles & Responsibilities
- Manages group goals supportive of the color strategy and innovation for APS USCAN (plus Mexico for PPC) PPC and EP business to drive the development of new or modified differentiated products, applications, or processes to meet market or customer objectives, lower overall cost, or improve application performance.
- Manage the development of color formulation and quality specification control plans, advise preferred production methods, support scale up activities associated with products and processes at internal or subcontracted manufacturing sites, and act as a technical consultant to manufacturing sites and quality for product, process, or quality resolution and other related items.
- Maintains key customer/partner/vendor relationships required to support the business strategy.
- Establish pigment strategy for the Performance Materials group working directly with vendors, procurement, manufacturing and the various product application development groups to implement.
- Mentors PAD Engineers and colorists toward best practice recipe creation and project management.
- Globally collaborates in color innovation activities, developmental trends, and best practice knowledge sharing in support of the PM business strategy.
- Provide technical advice and training to internal (sales support, technicians, etc.) and external customers on product recommendations, processing, and application of new or existing products.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations at meetings or conferences, and actively participate in technical organizations and professional associations related to the targeted BU core technologies.
- Works cross functionally with manufacturing, procurement, product safety and other teams to ensure regulatory, product safety, quality, cost, and efficiency is optimized via resin recipe management.
- Deliver GoalZero HSE performance through management systems and workplace culture.
Min. Qualifications
Education:
- Minimum requirement is a bachelor's degree in business, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemistry, or Related Engineering degree.
Work Experience:
- Minimum 10 years' experience in color development of thermoplastics compounds, preferably Polyolefin, Elastomer, Polyamide, Polyester, Styrenic compounds and blends, with direct experience leading color matching and customer approval activities for color innovation projects
- Minimum 5 year's supervisory or management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong leadership and people/organizational acumen demonstrated through previous experience within product development or manufacturing.
- Intimate knowledge of the properties, characteristics and processing behavior of pigments, and formulation knowledge with polymers, additives, functional modifiers, fillers, flame retardants, plasticizers or other.
- Intimate knowledge of polymer processing and testing methods related to color, and the ability to operate such equipment.
- Demonstrated ability and understanding of color matching theory and formulation development required in automotive, appliance, agriculture and building and construction application expectations for mold in color aesthetic applications
- Excellent verbal and written skills and ability to communicate with all levels of management - both internally and externally.
- Knowledge of quality systems for design and development, such as TS 16949, Design and Development requirements.
- Sound computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Color Matching, and information technology systems, preferred experience in project management, SAP, and PLM softwares.
