Laboratory Research Operations Manager who designs, executes and manages the Comprehensive Transplant Center Human Tissue Biorepository as directed in the Division of Transplant Surgery; develops and implements goals and objectives of the biorepository; performs clinical research work; participates in clinical trial activities; designs and executes complex laboratory experiments and processing protocols; participates in the on call schedule for research organ offers and transplant admissions; coordinates biospecimen procurement with hospital staff and pathology; establishes and maintains relationships with biorepository customers and provides excellent customer service when initiating, receiving, and distributing orders; processes, codes, stores, biospecimens (e.g., human organs, tissue, blood); collects and records clinical data associated with biospecimens; manages distribution of clinical data and biospecimens to customers; physically transports samples to and from investigators and institutions on and off campus; maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; carries out general laboratory cleaning and organization; develops and implements laboratory safety and standard operating procedures (SOPs); monitors and enforces laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with EHS and OSHA regulations, as well as local, state and federal regulations, including proper disposal and maintenance of regulated materials; manages daily operations of the laboratory; oversees and initiates procurement of lab supplies and equipment; provides technical assistance and supervision of equipment; negotiates and oversees equipment service contracts and repairs; responsible for managing freezer and laboratory monitoring systems; performs critical analysis of literature relevant to research being undertaken; assists in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation; assists in the preparation of proposals to obtain new or renewal of extramural funding in support of research; identifies and recommends possible sources of research funding; participates in developing and managing grant and laboratory budgets; monitors expenses; supervises and trains lab staff in specimen processing and banking biospecimens; responsible for the training and orientation and supervises the daily activities of 2 or more technical staff; serves as a scientific consultant to Director of Research Operations and Executive Director of the Comprehensive Transplant Center; performs additional duties as assigned. Minimum Education and Skills/Experience Required/Desired Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Doctoral Degree in biology, biological sciences or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred; 3 years relevant experience in biological/health science research capacity required; experience in a progressively responsible administrative capacity preferred; extensive experience planning amp; developing projects preferred; extensive knowledge and expertise in immunology required. Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen. |
