Scope of Position The Outpatient Service Centers include the phlebotomy draw stations located at various locations around the Greater Columbus Area. Sites include but are not limited Ross Heart Hospital, Martha Morehouse Pavilion, Outpatient Care Dublin, Outpatient Care New Albany, Outpatient Care Lewis Center, Outpatient Care Gahanna, Outpatient Care Upper Arlington, Outpatient Care East, and Hilliard, hours may vary per site to accommodate each outpatient locations operational and patient service needs. Job functions include but are not limited to specimen collection, specimen processing, and point of care/specimen testing (where applicable). Position Summary The patient service technician (PST) performs specimen collection by both venipuncture and capillary puncture, specimen labeling, and specimen processing. Verifies accuracy and quality of specimens collected and dispatches specimens to appropriate testing locations and performs training of others in these techniques. Also performs test requisition entry, greets and directs patients through the lab and gathers complete patient information necessary to complete the registration and accessioning of all procedures done in the area. May also perform point of care testing; ensures accuracy of results and Quality Control measures by maintaining equipment and instruments. Follows policy for chain of custody record keeping for pre-employment urine drug screen collections. Minimum Qualifications For Hire: High school diploma or GED is required. At least 1 year of relevant experience is required. Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification is preferred, but not required. On going: Maintains certification status (if applicable); meets mandatory education and health surveillance requirements. Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required meeting essential job functions. |
