MH Surgical Tech

Summary:

Assists in the nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. Functions as a member of the sterile team in donning gown and gloves creating and maintaining a sterile field and issuing instruments to surgeons.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures and skill when assisting the surgical team throughout the procedure.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy for surgical procedures anticipates supplies needed and had supplies available when needed.
  • Adhere to aseptic techniques practices correcting breaks in technique if they occur.
  • Performs sponge sharps and instruments counts according to MH&MC policy and procedure.
  • Prepares the room with appropriate instruments supplies and equipment before the procedure and prepares the instruments for the decontamination process removes unused supplies and equipment and restocks the room.
  • Handles specimens appropriately identifying them correctly.
  • Managers repair of instruments and equipment obtains loaners if necessary notifies appropriate personnel and follows up when necessary.
  • Participates with the OR team to identify the patient procedure and the side/site of surgery according to MH&MC policy and procedure.
  • Employee will comply with the principles of Infection Control and Aseptic Technique.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of relative Hospital and all-departmental policies and procedures including safety issues.
  • Possesses awareness of programs/services provided by Hospital and where they are located.


EDUCATION:



  • High School education or equivalent.


  • Surgical Tech certification required. BLS Certification required.
