Responsibilities

The Mental Health Assistant provides direct care to adolescents and adult patients with psychiatric disorders to ensure the safety and well-being of the patients. MHAs have the primary responsibility for ensuring the patient's safety on the unit. MHAs are responsible for understanding and using the least restrictive interventions per facility policy and avoiding seclusion and restraint whenever possible.


Qualifications

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent. Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field preferred.

Experience:

Prefer experience in a psychiatric hospital setting as a Mental Health Aide working with children, adolescents, geriatric and/or adults.

License/Certification:

Currently licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of Georgia. Current CPR Certification required. Current Handle with Care and Verbal De-escalation certification.

Skills:

Demonstrates the ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Perform ADL's with patients.

Physical Requirements:

Work is physically and mentally demanding. Extensive walking, standing, sitting and climbing stairs. Must be able to lift or move over fifty (50) pounds.
