Director, Division of Infectious Disease

The Division of Infectious Disease in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is recruiting a Division Director. The ideal candidate for this position is a nationally recognized physician-leader with a commitment to faculty development, sponsorship, recruitment, and excellence in clinical care, research, and education. Applicants must have an M.D. or D.O. degree. The Division Director should be an accomplished leader in laboratory-based, patient-oriented, translational, quality-improvement, or educational research and scholarship.

The Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Pittsburgh encompasses the largest, most comprehensive pediatric infectious diseases program in Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and West Virginia. The Division is exceptionally strong in clinical, research, and educational missions. The Division currently includes 19 faculty members, including Ph.D. basic investigators and three advanced-practice providers who provide compassionate, state-of-the-art care for inpatient and outpatient children from a catchment area of ~5.5 million. Members of the Division have research interests spanning laboratory-based, translational, and clinical research. The division faculty holds> $8M in extramural funding as Principal Investigators and published 78 papers in the last year. The Division has an outstanding fellowship program to train future pediatric infectious diseases clinicians and physician-scientists.

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is comprised of 20 divisions, six centers, and two institutes, with over 400 faculty members. The Department receives over $65 million in annual research support from the NIH and other federal and non-federal funding agencies.

UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, included in the Top 10 Honor Roll on U.S. News & World Report's 2023-2024 list of "America's Best Children's Hospitals," is a 317-bed, free-standing children's hospital located in the thriving Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. UPMC Children's Hospital cares for over 90% of all hospitalized children in our region, a large catchment area that includes Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, Northern West Virginia, and Southwestern New York. Overlooking the Allegheny River and much of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, the hospital is minutes away from the downtown cultural district, home stadiums for three major league sports teams, an internationally recognized culinary scene, and renowned centers of higher education at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie-Mellon University.

The position is for the recruitment of an Associate Professor or Professor in the appointment stream or tenure track. Available positions are open to all applicants who hold doctoral-level education in the field of medicine (M.D., D.O.), are board certified or board eligible, are qualified for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and meet the minimum position credentials for the pediatric specialty to provide clinical service. Responsibilities will include clinical patient care, teaching, service, admin, and research as determined by the Chair.

This position at the University of Pittsburgh will provide rank and salary commensurate with experience and academic credentials. General rank requirements: Associate Professors have 7-10 years of experience with significant demonstrated academic progress/contributions in their pediatric specialty; Professors have ten or more years of experience with clear demonstration of leadership, academic excellence, and innovation in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.
