The Center for Latin American Studies seeks an engaging and dynamic Visiting Faculty member to teach and contribute to the development of Brazilian culture and Portuguese language programs. The successful candidate will offer courses in Brazilian culture and society, as well as Portuguese language courses, and will contribute to the University's cultural outreach in the Pittsburgh community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach at least one section of Brazilian Culture and Society in English each year to undergraduate students.
  • Offer two to three courses in Portuguese language annually in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese.
  • Deliver one or more public lectures per year on topics of interest to the Lecturer, CLAS, and the Portuguese Program.
  • Organize and serve as the focal point for an annual symposium or panel on issues related to Brazilian culture and society.
  • Serve as a guest lecturer in appropriate courses within the department and beyond.
  • Participate in Portuguese language enrichment activities, such as the Brazil Nuts Club, the Portuguese Conversation Group, BRASA Chapter Club, and related initiatives.
  • Act as a cultural liaison between the University and the broader community to enhance the presence of Brazilian culture and arts in the region.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Brazilian Studies, Latin American Studies, Portuguese, or a related field.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Portuguese
