Description

Custodial Supervisor, Full-Time

POSITION PURPOSE:

Responsible for the daily supervision of a bilingual (mostly Spanish) contract custodial staff assigned to various day and nighttime shifts. Delegating tasks to ensure the workload is evenly distributed to accomplish the tasks required to meet the custodial needs of the expanded museum complex. In addition to the supervisory responsibilities, this position is also required to complete daily custodial duties. This is a working supervisory position.

This position reports to the Manager of Sustainability, Custodial, and Event Supervisors.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Responsible for the daily supervision of departmental and contract employees assigned to four operating locations in Bannock, Hamilton, Martin and Kirkland Buildings.
  • Ensures that work assignments and responsibilities are completed in a timely fashion and in accordance with Museum standards.
  • Trains employees in new custodial applications and approaches.
  • Ensures all custodians receive appropriate job-related safety training and that they follow established museum safety policies and procedures.
  • Makes recommendations to the manager on products and equipment choices and their suggested use.
  • Works with Event staff and caterers to ensure completion of all event activities.
  • Sweeps and wet mops floors in offices, galleries, halls, stairways, and public areas.
  • Operates mechanical floor cleaners, polishers and vacuums, buffs, strips, waxes and polishes floors, and vacuums and shampoos carpets.
  • Removes and disposes of trash from offices, galleries, and public areas.
  • Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors, mirrors in restrooms; restocks supplies as needed; reports damage to structures and equipment.
  • Washes windows and walls; dusts furniture, equipment, shelves, and woodwork including tops of windows and door frames.
  • Moves, removes, and relocates furniture and equipment as directed.
  • May perform exterior maintenance duties at times including snow removal from sidewalks and steps.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safe work environment for self and others.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, tools, and equipment to be able to effectively clean facilities.
  • Knowledge of lifting techniques sufficient to be able to move heavy items.
  • Skill in understanding and following oral, illustrated, written, or demonstrated instructions in both English and Spanish.
  • Skill in using chemicals and materials used to clean facilities.
  • Ability and willingness to perform routine and repetitive manual tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Workable knowledge of office computer software and ability to effectively communicate on our office system in written form.
  • Responsible for the instruction and oversight of contract staff personnel (mostly Spanish speakers). Spanish language skills required for day-to-day interaction and management of employees.
  • Consistent usage of the Racial Equity Lens in day-to-day operations.
  • Yearly goal setting to support Racial Equity Roadmap initiatives.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Skills, etc.):




  • High school diploma or GED
  • Spanish Language Skills (Fluent) mandatory
  • Possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license
  • Three years of basic custodial experience with at least one year of this experience being in custodial department supervision is preferred



WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:



  • Subject to long irregular hours
  • Subject to many interruptions and scheduling conflicts
  • Use of a radio handset
  • Use of a computer and other office equipment
  • Ability to perform moderately heavy manual tasks requiring the full range of body movements including raising or lowering an object 25-50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in and with public present
  • Physical activities include standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching
  • Working unusual shift hours to include at times 2300-0730



Position type: This position will be covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with AFSCME-CWU.

Pay: The hiring hourly range for the position is $23.20 - $28.90 based on experience. A $0.50 language differential is available for hours worked for candidates who have Spanish speaking proficiency.
