What you'll be doing...

Verizon seeks a technically-sophisticated attorney to join its policy organization's central support team, which handles advocacy efforts across jurisdictions on various issues, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, privacy, artificial intelligence, public safety, transactions, net neutrality, consumer protection, and wireless spectrum. This position will focus on government policy initiatives relating to cybersecurity, supply chain, critical infrastructure, government procurement, network resiliency and network modernization, fraud mitigation, and certain consumer protection issues. The candidate must have superior writing and oral advocacy skills, sound business and judgment, a calm and confident demeanor, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a technology background and/or a proven ability to successfully engage complex technology issues associated with communications networks and IT systems. They will also have strong presence, experience presenting to and advising business executives on government policy initiatives, and the ability to successfully drive government outcomes that benefit Verizon and its customers.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring and managing state, federal and international policy developments on a variety of topics.

  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal business and technology leaders and with external public and private sector stakeholders.

  • Representing Verizon before government agencies, Congress, and in industry bodies.

  • Managing Verizon's participation in collaborative partnerships with government and private sector stakeholders relating to information sharing and development of best practices on law enforcement, security, and consumer protection issues.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • JD degree and four or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Bar membership and needed licenses.

  • Experience working with the cybersecurity, network security, public safety, consumer protection or law enforcement communities.

  • Proven track record successfully engaging complex technical issues, ideally involving the communications industry.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Degree in computer science, engineering, or other technical discipline.

  • Demonstrated strong analytical, problem-solving, and oral and written advocacy skills

  • Proven track record formulating of supporting business leaders on legal issues involving technology.

  • The ability to navigate tight deadlines and balance numerous complex projects.

  • The resilience to seek the best result for our clients and customers even in the face of obstacles that are beyond your control to manage. Ability to work under high pressure and with challenging personalities and tight deadlines.

  • Confidence, versatility, and a focus on the customer.

  • TS/SCI Clearance or ability to obtain one.

For part-timers, your coverage will vary as you may be eligible for some of these benefits depending on your individual circumstances. If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $165,000.00 and $306,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
