Description

Performs routine laboratory tests and procedures as directed, with supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Performs a variety of laboratory tests and procedures according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.

* Collects data via laboratory experiments utilizing standard laboratory equipment, structured interviews, library research, data processing and/or other research techniques.

* If applicable, after appropriate training, assists in surgery and the care of animals.

* If applicable, after appropriate training and with supervision, uses radioactive, infectious, bio-hazardous, and/or toxic substances.

* Records data according to project requirements.

* If applicable, after appropriate training, assist with surgical procedures, as necessary.

* Processes acquired data and assists in its summarization using standard scientific techniques including computer programs.

* Makes periodic reports of project status to supervisor.

* Assists in care and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and work area. Alerts supervisor to equipment and supply needs.

* Performs clerical duties incidental to research tasks as required.

* Attends meetings as required.

* Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, seminars, and/or conferences.

* Performs other laboratory related functions as required or directed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Work requires a bachelors' degree in Biology or a related field of study. Requires intermediate math skills and ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry; apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; .deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; and speak effectively before groups of employees.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Potential Exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens. Job may require performance of tasks that involve potential for exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less and depth perception. Work requires some lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
