Position Summary

The Department of Biology at the University of New Mexico invites applications for two full time, 9-month appointments at the rank of Lecturer (II or III) to begin January 1, 2025. The successful candidates will teach introductory and intermediate courses required in our undergraduate curriculum and may have other teaching opportunities depending on the needs of the Department. Duties will also include supervising lab preparatory staff and graduate-student teaching assistants in the companion lab courses. Lecturers are non-tenure track faculty with annual reviews of performance and three promotion tiers. Workload is determined by the Chair of the Department of Biology and policies of the University of New Mexico.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Master's or PhD in Biology or related field completed by start date of hire (January 1, 2024)
2. Minimum of at least 2 years experience teaching in an academic institution of higher education

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Strong record of teaching undergraduate level classes in genetics and cell biology or ecology, evolution and physiology as evidenced by CV, teaching materials, and letters of reference.
2. Demonstrated experience coordinating laboratory classes associated with evolution, cell biology, genetics, ecology, physiology and anatomy and physiology courses.
3. Ability to interact with and mentor diverse students at the undergraduate level as evidenced by cover letter, teaching materials, and reference letters.
4. Ability to contribute to other core areas in the department as evidenced by cover letter, CV and teaching materials.
5. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities as evidenced by cover letter and teaching materials.
