Job Description

Location: Mundelein, IL

Reports to: Quality Manager

Job Overview: This role supports quality assurance and improvement initiatives by assisting in audits, corrective actions, and compliance activities. Responsibilities include document control, equipment calibration coordination, product specification management, and testing oversight. The role involves working closely with the Quality Engineer for root cause analysis, leading quality improvement efforts, and addressing plant floor issues. Additional duties include maintaining health and safety standards, participating in meetings, and collaborating across departments to ensure operational excellence. This individual also orders supplies, tracks material dispositions, and fulfills other tasks as needed.

Job Dimensions:

  • Part of AF Mundelein Quality Team
  • Hourly non-exempt, no direct reports.
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday 8 hour shift. Must be available on some holidays.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Assist in Quality Assurance Audits by customers.
  • Assist in answering corrective actions and implementing solutions
  • Supports Certificate of Assurance (COA)/Certificate of Compliance (COC) testing and inspection activities up to and including, preparation of the certification reports
  • Work closely with Quality Engineer to conduct root cause analysis, lead quality improvement teams, and troubleshoot quality issues on the plant floor.
  • Monitors the integrity of testing through all crews.
  • Maintain the document control system
  • Serve as back up on reviewing customer specifications, receiving and manage specification requests, create new/maintain product specifications for commercial, samples, R&D and engineering (all levels FG, WIP & RM (if needed))
  • Serve as back up on coordinating, conducting and reviewing equipment calibrations.
  • Tests film samples and accurately records test data per established procedures as requested by supervisor or designee
  • Awareness of and adherence to all suitable and relevant health, GMP and safety policies. Act as a safety leader and puts safety first in all responsibilities. Ensure all work activities are carried out according to Amcor safety and GMP requirements.
  • Track material dispositions and follow-up if dispositions are not made within a reasonable amount of time.
  • Acts as a safety leader. Demonstrates safety leadership by complying with all safety rules, policies, regulations and procedures, participating in safety programs, and encouraging employee involvement from all employees in all safety activities. Supports all written safety programs and safety training.
  • Participate in the daily internal notification meetings.
  • Interface with all departments and personnel: Production, Technical, Customer Service, Operations, Management, Shift Supervisors, Maintenance, etc.
  • Order supplies as needed.
  • Performs all other duties and / or projects as required.

Qualifications/Requirements

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Familiar with manufacturing processes
  • 2-4 years' experience in manufacturing or testing of flexible packaging, paper or related areas or experience in a quality support role
  • Demonstrated ability to work with electronic systems used at site including: electronic training systems, AS400, Lotus Notes, etc.
  • Accuracy in testing
  • Possesses computer skills required for Microsoft Office and testing equipment software
  • Work experience with lab and testing equipment preferred

Education & Certifications:

High school diploma or GED, Associates Degree and/or industrial certification preferred

Physical Demands

  • Physically able to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Standing up to 8 hours per day on a rotating evening shift, up to 5 days per week
  • Occasional twisting, turning, or bending to move items up to 40 lbs.
  • Alert state of mind to avoid safety hazards
  • Able to read/see up to 1/16 of an inch
  • Required to verbally communicate, hear, smell, stand, sit, walk, climb stairs and ladders, balance, bend and stoop.
  • Vision requirements of the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus to perform all functions safely.

Work Environment

This position requires the use of eye protection, hair net, and hearing protection in designated areas. When handling a sharp object or tool a cut glove must be worn per safety requirements. Other required PPE is task specific. GMP procedures are observed in all areas of the plant.
