Job Summary

The Housing and Residential Experience (HRE) HR area is currently recruiting a responsible Student HR Assistant to join their team of professionals.

  • Act as an administrative liaison between prospective and current employees and the Housing and Residential Experience HR team, managing responses to inquiries received in the HRE HR inbox and escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Assist the team in onboarding Student Assistant and Temporary Appointment candidates by preparing and posting official job offers and offer letters. Provide proactive follow-up and support to candidates throughout the onboarding process to ensure a smooth transition into their roles.
  • Support the implementation of Federal Work Study (FWS) and temporary job postings and hiring processes. Assist with updating FWS and student job openings each academic year, ensuring accuracy and compliance with university requirements.
  • Maintain and organize confidential HR files and records, ensuring compliance with FIU policies and federal/state regulations
  • Assist in keeping HRE HR tracking sheets up to date with all HR actions, such as the Hiring Status Report and the Access and Termination Report, supporting the team in accurate and timely record maintenance.
  • Provide support to the HR team during biweekly payroll processing by sending communication reminders, reviewing requests, and coordinating with the Payroll department as needed.
  • Assist in coordinating and hosting employee events, supporting logistical planning and ensuring a positive experience for all attendees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that are logically related to the position and that support the HR Manager and HR Specialist in achieving departmental goals.
Minimum Qualifications

  • A current Human Resources Management student or a student in a related field
  • Intermediate level of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Possess a high sense of responsibility and customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Ability to take direction and work independently as needed
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information
  • Knowledge of PC operations and specialized software programs
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally, and in writing
  • Ability to solve problems independently
  • Organizational and time-management skills

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.

  • Monday through Friday
  • Available between 9:00AM-5:00 PM
  • 20 hours a week
