Hiring Range

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $23.56- $39.85. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $25.05/hr - $28.34/hr.

Job Closing Date

Initial applicant review will begin on or around December 2nd, 2024. Posting will remain open until filled.

This position is a Hybrid role with a percentage of the time remote and on-site along with a flexible work arrangement, which includes a non-standard work schedule.

This position is a contract appointment with an expected end date of June 30, 2026.

This position is eligible for full UC benefits.

About the Job

Using research compliance concepts, applies state and federal laws/regulations and organizational policies and procedures to support Conflict of Interest, Export Controls/Research Security, Foreign Engagement, and Research Misconduct. Requires supervision or oversight for new and novel assignments with the goal of working independently on routine tasks and operations. Provides general day-to-day support to the RCI office, staff, and compliance committees/workgroups.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Applies research compliance professional concepts to ensure that all regulatory criteria are met as well as State regulations and UCOP and organization policies. This will include reading and referencing policies and regulations, participating in webinars and online courses, and completing tasks that demonstrate knowledge of compliance regulations.
  • Categorizes and/or analyzes conflict of interest disclosures, export control activity, foreign engagements, data management, and other compliance-related transactions. Assists in monitoring/auditing disclosures and data management plans for compliance.
  • Provides support for compliance committee functions (Conflict of Interest Committee, International Relationships Workgroup/Export Control Workgroup, Research Data Protections Workgroup), including agenda development, calendaring/scheduling of meetings, printing and compiling meeting materials for committee use, writing of minutes and all related duties including ordering of catering, setting up telecom, determining meeting locations.
  • Provides continuous maintenance and disposition of RCI electronic and paper files. Creates, edits, and maintains all files. Under direct supervision, provides continuous maintenance of research compliance websites.
  • Under direct supervision, communicates with internal units and assists in resolving particular issues of concern. With guidance, works to ensure processes meet the requirements of external regulatory bodies and to properly document these actions in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in the development and revision of standard operating procedures and guidelines, including reviewing existing standards and compiling external standards.
  • Provides support for the Office of Research Compliance and Integrity, including but not limited to, general administrative duties like calendaring, ordering, travel processing, copying, filing, label/file creation, and scanning. Responsible for supporting the creation and dissemination of the RCI newsletter.
Qualifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a related area. (Required)
  • The incumbent must have work experience which have led to the development of the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position is required. (Required)
  • General knowledge of federal compliance regulations pertaining to animal care and use; academic training in the biological sciences or bioethics. (Preferred)

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Academic training in engineering, the biological or computer sciences. (Preferred)
  • Requires attention to detail.
  • Requires ability to read and comprehend complex materials.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills (clarity, sentence/paragraph construction and grammar, et cetera).
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to learn, curiosity.
  • Familiarity with internet searching.
  • Problem-solving skills; multi-task, work with frequent interruptions, effective listener.
  • Proficiency with office equipment.
  • Knowledge of office software including Adobe, Microsoft Office, Excel, FileMaker.
  • Learns federal, state, organizational and system policies regarding conflict of interest.
  • Professional certification preferred. (Preferred)
