Description: Eliassen Group has an immediate opening for an experienced Software Developer III - Senior Java Web Application Developer to work remote. In this role you will work with our organization to support US Government client which is a critical public health platform which supports the nation by disseminating public health-oriented data through a robust web application. Due to federal security clearance requirements, applicant must be a United States Citizen or Permanent Resident with ability to obtain an active Public Trust clearance. Rate: $50 - $60 / hr. w2
Responsibilities:
- Implement improvements to the CDC WONDER web application. This includes working within the existing framework to modify and maintain complex HTML forms and Java server-side coding that creates and executes complex database queries of the CDC WONDER application and managing supporting database objects, and data. Improvements may include defect fixes, optimizations, development of new and existing features, and supporting research and development efforts for new analytic measures and visualizations for the WONDER online databases.
- Actively communicate with team members regarding assigned tasks.
- Take ownership of tasks which may not have obvious technical solutions and develop clear and actionable plans to complete them in a timely manner.
- Identify and refine acceptance criteria, and develop and perform unit tests, integration testing, and regression testing and support user acceptance for delivered code.
- Document procedures, code, workflows, and activities as required.
- Attend and participate in various meetings to support CDC Wonder.
- Assist in Data Modernization efforts, which may include containerization, code refactoring, source control migration, implementation of Azure Data Factory and other Azure Services, and Palantir Foundry, etc.
- Be available and responsive during core business hours.
- Submit monthly status reports on activities and deliverables.
Experience Requirements:
- 5+ years of related professional experience involving data-oriented analytic web applications.
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Proven ability to engage with client team members and self-motivated to complete assigned tasks independently.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills that enable communication with all levels of employees and management.
- Ability to support public health professionals, statisticians, and data scientists.
- 5+ years of professional experience developing and supporting web applications implemented in Java, HTML, CSS, XML, and XSLT; and using ANT build processes and IDEs such as Eclipse or VSCode.
- 5+ years of professional experience working with SQL based relational databases, preferably Microsoft SQL Server, that support web application development.
- Experience supporting SQL Server ETL processes.
- Experience with Apache Tomcat servlet engine.
- Experience developing and supporting RESTful APIs that return XML and JSON.
- Experience using source code repositories such as Tortoise, CVS, or others.
- History of supporting epidemiologists, statisticians, or other public health analytics is a strong plus.
- Knowledge of Azure cloud services, containerization such as Docker, and Palantir Foundry are a strong plus.
