DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Director of Building Operations reports directly to the Facilities Management Director. Under general direction, responsible for operations and maintenance of over 12 million SF within 700+ UCSD buildings located on the UCSD main campus, east campus Medical Facilities, Scripps Institute of Oceanography, Elliot Field, Nimitz Marine Facility, Hillcrest Medical Teaching Facility and other facilities per agreement. Accountable for developing and achieving operational goals and metrics. Provides leadership, direction and expertise to department, projects or decentralized facilities management and construction activities. Formulates and administers policies and procedures to further the goals of the campus and Facilities Management (FM) Strengthen workforce by using sound judgment in hiring and training assigned staff. Screen, interview and select employees for hire. Train and assign work to new and continuing employees and provide guidance on performance standards and University procedures. Conduct performance evaluations of senior Building Operations staff, including counseling and disciplinary action. Ensure that annual appraisals are completed on-time and in a fair, consistent, manner for the entire division. Duties include short and long range operational planning based on experience, industry trends, and campus forecasts. Plan and strategize to meet demands placed on Facilities Management due to campus growth and issues. Take a lead role in facility condition assessments and deferred maintenance / facility renewal program. Exercise financial responsibility for Facilities Management Building Operations budget of more than $25 million per year composed of both state and recharge funding. Accountable for budget development, execution and purchasing. Receive appropriations and allocate funds to best serve the needs of the University and FM. Conduct building visits with staff to observe site conditions and have interaction with customer base. Keep Director and Customer Relations Supervisor informed of any potential client issues or escalations. Provides oversight for facility development, building safety, hazardous materials, waste management and space. Establishes objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate professionals or managers. Reviews and approves recommendations for facilities management and related programs. Responsible for managing, preparing, administering, and directing facilities management resources. Involved in developing, modifying and executing policies that affect immediate operation(s). Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $116,000 - $224,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $55.56 - $107.38 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
