Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Director of the African American Retention Initiative (AARI), the office coordinator serves as the first point of contact for the Center for African Diaspora Academic Student Success Center (CADSS) which provides comprehensive support services to students of the African Diaspora communities which promotes a sense of belonging, independence and integrated participation in campus life. The Office Coordinator (AAIII) is to prepare monthly budgets and reports including review of ledgers; handles purchasing and other general support functions and initiate FIS documents; provide administrative support by maintaining calendars, scheduling meetings, maintaining equipment inventory, etc.; coordinate schedules for programmatic efforts, student office schedules; oversee center utilization; and maintain office listservs and activity databases. - High school diploma or equivalent experience
- Experience using software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pivot Tables, email, and other computer programs to produce general correspondence, forms, reports, spreadsheets, presentations and access student information.
- Experience performing administrative and general office functions, accounting, record keeping, human resources, and filing techniques as well as writing, editing, and proofing any type of communication in the appropriate style. As well as maintaining the security of confidential information.
- Experience with event coordination; skills to schedule and coordinate large, complex meetings and special events.
- Experience analyzing information, performing independent research, and presenting complex data.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple demands and requests as well as organize and utilize resources to accomplish established goals, tasks, and priorities with minimal direction.
- Knowledge of programs and resources in support of cultural, social, personal, and academic needs of African Diaspora students.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the public in diverse environments at all levels, with tact and diplomacy to achieve program and campus goals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading and working in a team environment with shared responsibilities.
- Experience working with African Diaspora alumni, community groups, parents, students, and organizations; experience addressing the financial, emotional, and academic special needs of African Diaspora students in an institution of higher learning.
- Customer service skills to communicate and interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds in a cooperative/professional manner.
- Skills using Aggie Expense, Online Time Reporting System, AggieTravel, Aggie Swipe Card system and ability to understand University of California financial and budgetary procedures, process transactions and oversight of receipt collection and financial documentation.
- Analytical, problem solving and conflict resolution skills to analyze situations, initiate solutions, and develop guidelines with coordinating groups and programs; and involving students and student interactions.
- Skills to obtain, correlate and analyze data and develop statistics from a variety of campus sources.
- Skills to retrieve and assemble information for the preparation of reports, schedules, correspondence etc.

Department Overview The Strategic Retention Initiatives Centers are dedicated to the persistence, empowerment, and graduation of students part of the African Diaspora at UC Davis. The initiatives support the academic development and achievement of the cultural student communities, created in partnership with other campus units in student affairs, academic affairs, undergraduate admissions, etc. The Strategic Retention Initiatives Centers are dedicated to serve as spaces that inform newly admitted students and continuing students of the culturally specific resources available for their success on campus.
