Summary of Position
Keene State College invites applications for an Assistant Director, Upward Bound to work directly with the Director of TRIO Programs to plan and implement federal project recruitment, services, evaluation, and reporting, and lead a staff team dedicated to student success. This is a full-time, grant-funded position contingent upon grant funding.

Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math-Science are year-round college preparatory programs. The programs: prepare students for success in high school and enrollment in college, are funded by the U.S. Department of Education TRIO Division; are free of charge to students who meet eligibility criteria including being low-income and first-generation college; and serve students enrolled in identified target high schools. Other minimum qualifications

  • Master's Degree in education, counseling or related field and two years of experience including teaching, counseling, or administration, or bachelor's degree plus four years of experience;
  • 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • Strong commitment to the needs of disadvantaged students;
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written means.
  • Proven interpersonal, organizational, and supervisory skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and school personnel.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Word,Excel, database systems, and Google Suite.
  • Available extended hours in the summer, and regular nights and weekends during the academic year.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of experience including TRIO or EOP program management, teaching, or counseling.
  • Previous experience as a participant or staff member of a TRIO program.

Salary Information
Salary is commensurate with experience, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, retirement, tuition, and paid time off. This is a full-time, grant-funded position. KSC TRIO positions are contingent upon grant funding. This position falls within the Keene State College Staff Association ( KSCSA).

Duties / Responsibilities
Job Duties


Duty/Responsibility

  • Manage academic year program, including: college, career, and cultural field trips and large group activities; grade specific workshops; tutoring; parent communications; supporting students and parents in college search, selection, financing; and leadership development.
  • Oversee process of conducting needs assessment of individual students.
  • Monitor the implementation of school year and summer academic plans and evaluations.
  • Maintain relationships with assigned middle and high school partners, community agencies, and campus departments that support student referrals, enrollment, and access to resources.
  • Oversee the recruitment and selection of UPB student participants, including certifying eligibility in accordance with federal TRIO guidelines.
  • Assure target number of eligible students are recruited using a recruitment plan.
  • Provide high quality academic counseling to students.
  • Facilitate college search, admissions, scholarships, financial aid/literacy, learning skills, time management, career and college exploration opportunities.
  • Coordinate with college, target high schools and community to promote program.
  • Maintain federally mandated documentation including contact logs, mileage, time and effort, applications, test scores, grades, transcripts, stipends etc.
  • Track and organize quantitative data for the development of federal reports annually.
  • Develop communications including newsletters, forms, permission slips, yearbooks, social media and web presence.
  • Conduct formative and summative programmatic assessments.



Duty/Responsibility

  • Provide academic counseling to students in assigned target high schools.
  • Conduct needs assessment of individual program participants.
  • Review 504 and IEP plans and determine appropriate accommodations.
  • Develop school year and summer academic student educational plans.
  • Make arrangements for recruitment events in assigned target middle and high schools, including small and large group presentations during the school day, at open houses, parent teacher nights, and college preparation events.
  • Assist with scheduled events in all target schools, as needed.
  • Track submission of student applications and supporting materials from assigned target schools. Interview and evaluate eligible applicants in assigned target schools.
  • Communicate admission outcomes to school personnel.
  • Assist with presentations at relevant small and large group campus and regional events, including: STEM activities; college search, application and financing events; and non-KSC TRIO or EOP programs when visiting campus.
  • Facilitate workshops for student participants on topics which include: college search; admissions; scholarships; financial aid/literacy; soft skills, coping strategies; learning skills; study skills; time management; and career and college exploration processes for students and families.
  • Supervise academic year field trips and facilitate large group activities, including but not limited to: grade specific workshops, college tours, academic and cultural field trips.



Duty/Responsibility

  • Coordinate summer programming, which includes academic and residential components.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and supervision of UBP summer staff.
  • Coordinate Summer Orientation for participants and their families.
