This position is a 100% non-tenure track faculty Extension assignment covering multiple counties. The successful candidate may be housed in one of thecounties served by this position.
Geographic Area:Southwest Alabama - Agronomic Crops Program (Baldwin County, Butler County, Clarke County, Conecuh County, Escambia County, Mobile County, Monroe County, and Washington County)
The Alabama Cooperative Extension System ( ACES) serves as the vital link between AU, Alabama A&M University, and communities across all 67 counties. Through science-based educational initiatives, we empower individuals, families, and communities to enhance their quality of life and economic prosperity.
Joining the Extension Agronomic Crops Team means contributing to a mission dedicated to providing commercial row crop producers and related stakeholders with cutting-edge research-based insights. Our focus is on ensuring the long-term sustainability and profitability of our clientele through environmentally conscious agronomic practices.
As a Regional Extension Agent ( REA), you'll be an integral part of our cohesive team, collaborating with local stakeholders, advisory groups, and interested parties to design, execute, and assess agricultural row crop programs tailored to your region's needs. Our programs cover all aspects of row crop agriculture, utilizing innovative agricultural technologies to support producers in achieving success. Traditionally, the row crops in these counties include cotton, soybeans, field corn, and small grains, among others. Join us in making a meaningful impact on Alabama's agricultural landscape.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Plant Sciences, or related field.
  • Commitment to obtaining a master's degree within five years of successfully completing a probationary period.


The successful candidate must showcase:

  • Proficiency in planning and executing educational programs focused on agronomic row crops and pest management practices in row crop production.
  • Competence in using Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer, Excel, and other relevant software programs.
  • Strong communication skills, teamwork abilities, and readiness to engage in diverse outreach methods for program delivery.

This position involves regular travel to fulfill Extension responsibilities, and access to reliable transportation is essential.
Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Agronomy or Plant Sciences with a minimum of one year of relevant experience, or a preferred Master's degree from an accredited institution in a related field.


  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in precision agriculture, as well as proficiency in GIS, GPS, and remote-sensing applications in agriculture.
